3rd Trimester

Zantac around the clock...

I woke up with horrid heartburn around 2:30 this morning...and realized I had missed my Zantac doseage.  What is crazy is that I didn't have heartburn until like 4 days ago-ever.  Now it is killing me....so, Zantac or Prilosec or just stick to Tums, what has been working for everyone?

Re: Zantac around the clock...

  • My dr said Zantac was safest and if that didn't work to let him know and he'd put me on Nexium.  I supplement that w/ the Tums Smoothies.  The Smoothies are the best!

  • Zantac. Tums didn't make a dent. At first I was just taking it when I really had to (special dinner, etc.), but then my dr. smacked some sense into me and told me to take it twice a day, every day.

Now that the baby dropped, I'm actually eating comfortably without taking anythingl. Woo hoo!

Yes! Totally agree about the smoothies as a supplement. Is it wrong that I crave them like candy sometimes?

  • Zantac helps take the edge off but on bad days doesn't do much for me. On those days I'll take a few tums. I've been trying almonds. A friend who is against taking any meds during pregnancy told me to try them. Apparently there is some enzyme in them that can help with heartburn. I think a handful of almonds actually work better than tums, taste better and give me protein too. I'm just gearing up for this to get worse as baby gets bigger and pushes up more on my stomach. It also helps to eat smaller meals/snacks every 2 hours or so. Good luck!
