3rd Trimester

trace protein, anyone else have it?

Yesterday I was monitored in OB for a few hours due to contractions, which were frequent enough for them to worry but not lasting very long each time.  I was checked and fully closed and had the FFN test done which came back negative. So it looks like I will just be having really annoying and uncomfortable BH til the end. I am only 28 weeks now.

Anyway, I had a bunch of tests run and one checking my urine which came back with trace protein. So my question is, have any of you had trace protein earlier on and have it turn into 3+ by the end and become pre-eclampsia or have any of you just had trace and not another problem? I do know last month there was absolutley none so just sort of wondering, especially where I got pretty severe pre-e last time. Any input? Thanks!

Re: trace protein, anyone else have it?

  • Throughout my pregnancy I have had "trace" protein in my urine.  I tested at 1+ the other night when I went in with HBP so they had me do a 24 hr. urine which came back with only trace again.  My HBP hasn't gone away though, so they said I have Pregnancy Induced Hypertension which could lead to Pre-e later on.

  • I had trace protein around 29 weeks, then nothing at the following appointments. At 36 weeks, my BP started going high but there is still no more than "trace" amounts of protein in my urine. These are things they watch, but they haven't been concerned enough to induce me. (Gotta confess that tonight, induction sounds lovely.)

    Good luck!

  • I had trace protein last visit, but no HBP. I think I have a UTI and I heard read somewhere that normal or low BP and protein can indicate UTI.

I have no idea why the doc wouldn't just test me in the office. They send my urine away with my Glucose test, so I will find out when that comes back.

That really sucks to have to deal with that for the rest of the time. I hope it goes away.?

  • I have had trace protein on and off throughout the pregnancy... some weeks it is there and some weeks it isn't.  I don't worry about it too much.
