    a very talented baker could make this without a mold!!! i would use a mold because it also would take too much time to cut the shape into the cake!

    What kind of baker are you talking about? a grocery store bakery or a full on bakery that dose custom cakes?

    A chain bakery wont make that, but more then likely your local bakery will if they do custom cakes

    No, a mold would not be necessary.  It would be far less wasteful, however.  I could pretty easily make that cake, but I'd waste a SHITLOAD.

    A good custom baker shouldn't have an issue.
