I recently started making baby food. DS LOVES LOVES LOVES it which is great because generally no one likes me cooking. Anyway, does anyone know how long homemade baby food can keep in the fridge? How do you freeze/defrost it? What is the best container for freezing? Just curious since I make it in quantities.
TIA
Re: Homemade Baby Food Question
Use icecube trays, spray with cooking spray and freeze then pop out and out in freezer bags, each cube is about 1 oz.
I just mashed up whatever I was making for dinner and made sure there was always something C could eat. I pop it into my cuisinart mini food prep. Like mashed and green beans, later I added a little chicken. Made it like baby food and no extra work.
I also used ice cube trays but didn't find that i needed cooking spray.
They keep for about a month, I believe.
The best web site for this is Wholesomebabyfood.com
They have answered all of my questions that have come up.
I usually steam my veggies, put them in a blender mixed with breastmilk or water and then put them in ice cube trays and let them freeze overnight. I then take them and put them in gallon size plastic bags and write the date I made it and the date of 6 weeks out (most food is good for 6 weeks in the freezer). Then I take out 3-4 days worth of the food cubes and put them in the fridge in sealed containers and use them as I need them. Hope this helps!

You can also buy things called "Baby Cubes" for freezing food
I found the wholesome baby food website a little hard to navigate....I thought it had almost too much information. You should check out www.nurture-baby.com, as it's well organized and easier on the eyes.
There are some great books on making baby food at the public library.
