1st Trimester

9w 1d and no ultrasound - just a vent

i know its normal when you arent 'high risk' and i thank god that i am not high risk...but i was so looking forward to seeing the babes today at my appointment!!! the dr told me that the only way i would see the babes before my 20w ultrasound is if i get the first tri screening which isnt necessary if im not 'high risk'...but i can opt to do it. im going to have to talk to my insurance co. to see if its going to go towards my deductible...

oh well..i guess i have to learn a bit about patience...atleast we got a healthy report from blood work/urine!! thats def. a positive note!!!

  • I am sorry to hear that you didn't get to see your babe!  Maybe try a different dr.  I had my first ultrasound at 7 weeks.  I did the NT scan and I am not high risk.  It is an awesome appointment.  I just did mine last week.

  • It's pretty standard to just have one at 20 wks...that's what my OB does.
  • I am right there with you! I have a dr appt tomorrow and will be trying to hear the hb with dopplar...no u/s though until 18-20 weeks for me either.
  • Check to see what your insurance will cover and then talk to your doc to see if you can get an earlier U/S. I am actually surprised by the number of ladies on the board that have had a U/S at their first appt. without being high risk. I  would think most insurances wouldn't cover it.

I'm at 12 weeks and I am having my NT Scan on Thurs. but I am old bird (35).

  • yes, be very thankful you are not high-risk.

I had 6 u/s's by 18w.   But that is the ONLY good thing about high-risk.   I worry everyday regarding this pregnancy.

ditto. I'm having my first u/s tomorrow, and frankly I'm terrified of what they might find. Or not find, for that matter.

  • I'm not high risk, and will have 4 ultrasounds by the time we're done (7w, 11w, 19w and 36w growth scan). Like pp said, you can always switch doctors, but no that just because your doctor offers it doesn't mean insurance will cover it. Our insurance covers 2, so the other 2 are out of pocket, but definitely worth it to me. GL!
  • It's totally normal - I also don't get one until 20wks. I don't even get to hear a hb for another two weeks!
  • definitely frustrating. At my 11 week appointment I got to hear the heartbeat. But won't see Baby C until 19 weeks.

I'll just enjoy puking until then :)

  • I hear ya on that one!! I've had 2 and i'm 9 weeks! But the worrying still doesn't go away!
  • I think that is def pretty standard.  I went to the doctor at 8 weeks and they just did an internal exam and bloodwork.. I won't get an u/s until my first tri screening.
  • Sadly, I think that is the norm, as  irritating as it is.
