DD #2 is due in less the 4 weeks. Her name is Reese. My mother inlaw said she was going to call her reese cup and I told her if she planned on doing that then I would chose a different name. I think Reese Cup is a dumb nickname. Her name is Reese not Reese Cup. So anyway she agreed no to call her that. A good friend of mine over heard her talking on sat saying she is still going to call her that. Am I wrong here? And why would she do it if she knows it annoys me?
Re: What would you do-annoying nickname issue with MIL
If she's anything like my MIL she's more likely to keep it up if she knows it bothers you. So in that case, you'd have to completely annoy it or correct her every time until she gets bored.
If she's normally a nice enough person, have DH let her know that it is something he wishes MIL wouldn't do so DD won't grow up to be embarassed by her name.
Does it bother you as long as she doesn't say it around you? I guess I don't see the big deal.
Liam is 5!
Well my DH just told me he thinks im a psycho because of this! He says im stuid for being annoyed by this!
I just dont like it. I just told DH im naming her Reese. She is not a candy bar. If I were delivering a candy bar that would be fine. I think MIL is doing it just because she knows I hate it.

We had a different name and MIL didnt like it so then suddenly DH didnt like it! Hes a mommas boy!
Of all the things to be annoyed about, nicknames, dumb or otherwise, are near the bottom of my list.
We named Taylor that name on purpose because I did not want a name that could be shortened into a "nickname"...I named her Taylor. (and Audrey for that matter..by Mitchell, i gave up and realized a nickname is just a term of endearment and nothing more).
Anyways.....We now call Taylor SEVERAL of the nicknames that I big people's head off for even mentioning while I was pregnant. "Tay Tay" was one that I flipped out when one of DH's cousins said "ohhh Taylor! Little Tay, Tay...that will be a cute name!" But that's what Mitch calls her..so when I talk to Mitch, i say 'It's bedtime, Give Tay Tay a hug!" or whatever.
Tator Tot, Taylor Tot, Tay, Tay Tay, All Done Tay (el dente), etc are all names we all call her now.
Its just a nickname, and the most you can do is correct her when she says it, but honestly, I'd let it blow over, let Reese correct her when she grows up if it bugs her.
MIL calls Isabelle Isabug & I use to want to scream until I realized that at some point I am not going to be able to control every aspect of my child's life. MIL also has a way of changing everything that has a name, Isabelle's stuffed cat is called MEOW but MIL calls it TIGER, now Isabelle has learned at 2.5yrs old to correct her & she will also tell MIL that her name is not Isabug it's Isabelle so that makes me happy but if Isabelle doesn't mind then I've learned not to either b/c it's something special she shares with her grandmother.
Michelle
It just annoys me that she knows I dont like it but she is insisting. Its almost like she is doing to get to me.
Well it's working
