2nd Trimester

I feel too small...

Now I know, maybe in a few weeks I will regret saying this but, here goes...

EVERYONE keeps saying how can I be 20 weeks when I am barely showing? One of my friends is about 18 weeks and she is wayy bigger than I am...

It makes me worried, and I think its rude.

Re: I feel too small...

  • I'm 22 weeks and JUST started wearing maternity jeans.  Everyone is different, and grows at different rates.

  • Don't worry-- everybody is different... If your doctor isn't worried you shouldn't be

My SIL and I are due within 3 days of each other (scary!) and she is practically double my size right now...

  • I can still fit into my pre pregnancy jeans at 21 and a half weeks! I get a lot of comments that I should be showing more as well, but I take it in one ear and out the other. Every body is different, and I've got a healthy baby kicking away; I'm not worried!
  • With my first I was just beginning to show at 20 weeks.  That was the first belly pic I took and when I look back at it I was tiny.  By the time I delivered I had a big old belly.  As pp mentioned everyone grows and shows at different rates.  If your doc isn't concerned, then blow it off as people with random pregnancy comments.  I think they some how feel that they are giving you a complement when they say how small you are.

  • Don't worry- you'll catch up! It's funny, too- at 18 weeks I started taking pictures because it felt like I had a bit of a belly. I did, but it was a tiny little thing. At 21 weeks, there is a big difference (but I can still manage to wear my pre pg jeans, even if not very comfortably, with the rubber band trick).

  • Most people can't believe I'm 23 weeks. Everyone shows differently. Don't worry!
  • My esthetician had on regular pants the last time I saw her and she was 35 weeks! Some women just carry the baby differently. Don't let them worry you.
  • Some people say I am showing more than other people at this stage, but I went to the doctor on Thursday and she said my uterus is measuring perfectly so that is what I plan to tell the next person who says that to me.  Someone posted a funny picture of her and her friend on thebump when they were both 30 weeks and one was way bigger than the other one but they both gave birth to healthy babies- and she wrote - this is why you should not compare bumps.  Everyone shows differently :)

Don't be worried unless your doctor is.

I'm about a week behind you and I'm not showing.  Sure I have a little bit of a belly but not a pregnant looking one lol.  My doc told me that it's only a cause for concern if you're in the third trimester and you aren't gaining/growing

  • be blessed because you are right within a few weeks or so you are going to be wishing people were saying "your barely showing"  unless you look forward to not being able to see your feet, tie your shoes, ect.  Some women like that.  I personally wish I still had a tiny tummy.
  • Ditto what everyone else has said. Everyone shows differently. When I was 20 weeks, I was barely showing. And 2 weeks later, it's only a bit more noticeable. Heck, I still have a couple pair of pre-pg jeans I can still BUTTON! Don't worry about it, especially if your doc says you're doing fine.
  • I feel small too... way small. i'm in pre-pregnancy jeans and can still for the most part wear most of my shirts if they fit in the boob area. My doctor told me the other day that he is pretty sure my body just carries well and he thinks i'll be in these jeans till the end or at least 30 weeks because of the brand and style of jeans that I wear. But my baby is actually measuring big so I know that its all how your body carries.
  • Don't feel bad. I'm getting this too. I am still in my regular jeans and haven't felt big enough to wear maternity shirts yet. I've gained 15 pounds, so I know I'm on track, but the comments do get annoying. Just be happy you're looking good.
