Success after IF

Re: XP: called the police on a Mom today...

  • I would say you did the right thing.  If anything, you got them a carseat AND they (hopefully) learned a lesson.

  • You did the right thing. I had to do that a few days ago because they had a baby in the front seat facing forward. idiots.

  • You definitely did the right thing.  And it's nice to hear how the police were right on top of the situation.  I'm glad they took it so seriously.
  • You absolutely did the right thing. I am a cop and that is one of the things that gets under my skin the most (even years before having a baby)! Your right, there is no excuse. We have carseat we will give you and install! Do not feel bad at all, they made the dumb choice not you. Think about how bad you would feel if you did not call, you would wonder if they made it home okay, if they did not you would feel bad. We get a lot of dumb calls that we roll our eyes at but that is far from one of them.

  • Its unfortunate that you were put in that situation, but kudos to you for taking action.  That child was not properly restrained and is too young to advocate for him/herself.  You may have saved a life (and untold heartache for the family).  And even if not. . . they will be pissed, tell their friends and more people will learn that they MUST have car seats for their babies/children, even if it is simply to avoid a ticket and other problems with the police/child services.

Don't feel badly, IMO, you did the right thing!

  • I think you did the right thing. Hopefully they do the right thing from now on. Like pp said, you could have saved that baby from serious harm or even death.

  • Good for you!  My husband and I saw a woman actually take her newborn out of his infant seat in the car while she was riding in the backseat with him.  Nevermind the fact that his infant seat was turned sideways in the backseat, so there's no way it was securely hooked in.  But my husband wouldn't let me do anything.  I should have called the cops.  I wish I had.
  • I would not feel bad at all. ?You did the right thing. ?I think social services gets a bad rap sometimes. ?I worked as a school nurse and was involved with social services for kids all the time. ?There were many times that they would work with the family for months on end to try to make situations better for the parents and the children...not just rush to take kids away. ?Obviously when they needed to the kids would be removed, but most people do not know that removing kids is not the only thing they do
  • When we had our carseat professionally installed twice - once for the infant and once for the big boy carseat - both places presumed we didn't have a carseat and had a free one waiting for us.  Once was with the troopers, once with AAA.  So there are definitely carseats out there for people who need them - no questions asked.  We could have gotten a freebie for Grandma's car!  But that wouldn't have been right...
  • Good for you!!!!!
  • You definitely did the right thing.  Good for you!

I was driving on a busy street the other day and noticed a guy sitting in the back of a minivan with a one-year-old on his lap.  She kept trying to stand, and I could see him trying to keep her down because there are often cops on the road.  Idiot.  I tried to get the plate number, but they turned.  That ticks me off to no end.
