I am thinking of weaning from the pump and slowly going to giving formula while he's at daycare and nursing morning and night. If you do this, on the weekends do you give formula during the day or do you produce enough to nurse during the day? TIA
I'm considering this too. I already have to supplement because I don't pump nearly enough. But, on weekends I primarily nurse her and it seems to go fine. I guess because babies are better than the pump at getting the milk out

I tried it and it didn't work for me. I found that I started not producing enough at those feedings that he was having to work to hard or wasn't getting enough or something. He just stopped nursing after the first week of me trying. I am not sure why...
Sorry to sound so negative, but it didn't work for me.

This is me exactly.
I still pump during the day, just not very much. I sometimes pump just once in an 8 hour time period. But I don't work every day, so I think for me it's okay.

I did this and it worked fine for us. I wasn't having success pumping regularly at work and was having supply issues, so after 6 months I would pump when I could and began supplementing with formula. I still nursed DD in the morning, after work, and before bed. On weekends or days that I wasn't working, I would exclusively nurse. It worked out fine. I began to drop a feeding about 3 weeks ago and DD self weaned about two weeks ago. It was a little heartbreaking, as I wanted to nurse until 12 months, but she has EIGHT teeth, so parts of me were okay with the weaning.
I did this for the last four months. I decided to give formula during the day on the weekends so that I wasn't engorged on Mondays although I have heard from other Nesties that they nursed on demand on the weekends. It was just easier for us to keep the schedule the same for DS.
I haven't had any problems with nursing AM/PM weekdays and nursing on demand on the weekends. I was worried about engorgement but nothing as of yet. DD hasn't complained of not getting enough, although she's branching out into foods and juice, so she's got enough variety to keep her full.
You know, I re-thought my pp and would add that sometimes I do find my supply is low during the day (on the days I don't work). This tends to be the case if I work three days in a row and am not good about pumping and/or drinking enough water. I can usually tell that L isn't getting enough (she lets me know) and on those days I supplement with a bottle of formula. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. I suppose if you worked full time M-F it could be more of an issue.

I do this, but DD also only gets one bottle of F per day while at the sitter. I pump enough during the day to get one large bottle of BM, and then her other bottle is the F.
I nurse morning and night, as well as all day during the weekends. I have had no trouble at all with supply during the day on the weekend, but that may also be due to me still pumping during the day while at work. I am sure that helps to keep my daytime supply up. GL!

I weaned him. It was a hard decision but I just wasn't making enough to feed him anymore. I was taking Reglan and it helped for awhile but not enough.
