3rd Trimester

want to know what my delivery cost?

I arrived at the hosp and had my baby 19 minutes later. No drugs, no IV, nothing. One stitch afterwards, no lidocane.

I stayed one night and was discharged 26 hours after I delivered.

Total cost?

$7,070.10

(this doesn't cover what my OB is going to charge. Nor does it cover Dash's 12 day NICU stay. *sigh*)

(oh, and after insurance, we're responsible for $448.)

  • Good lord!!  This is where I thank god that I live in Canada.  Lucky you have insurance that covers most of it!
  • Thank god for good insurance!  I am NOT going to show this to my husband, I need him alive on delivery day, not recovering from a heart attack.

  • That is crazy!  Good thing for insurance.  My hospital bill was over $28K, not including the other charges like OB, DD's bill, and anesthesiologist.  I did have a C-section though.

  • Oh my gosh! My parents have the hospital bill for my birth tucked into my baby book. It's under $900. This was in 1985. What a difference!

  • aaaghh!! Why does creating life cost so much? My nephew had gastroschisis, born at 33 wks, and had a 4 month NICU stay. His medical bills were up in the hundred thousands...but he's now a happy healthy 7 year old

  • That is just crazy!!  I am so thankful for our insurance even though it can be a pain sometimes!
  • ours was over 22,000 dollars.  That was just the hospitals charge.  OB was another 2500.00 and Anest. was 2000.00.

So far we paid Anes 750.00, will have to pay OB 650.00, and hospital bill we got is 1,675.00.

    yay for bills.

We haven't gotten DD's portion yet, unless it was the "small" 200.00 one we got which will be nice (she was just in regular nursery, no NICU or anything).

You can say THAT again! Sheesh!

The most I'll have to pay is $1200 (max out of pocket per person). That's still a lot, but after knowing the full amount, I'm thankful for that.

  • That's crazy!  But my SIL ended up having her baby in her living room (he came too quick and they never made it out the door).  So even though they were still connected by the cord when they went to the hospital in the ambulence, they charged to transport 2 people.  And her bill was around the same as yours and she didn't even deliver there.  Medical costs are crazy!!!

  • Glad I have full coverage! yay!
  • Love his picture! I can believe it. Friends of ours were having their second, when she went into the fastest labor ever. She told the nurses that he was coming out now, and the told her that she still needed to put a gown on, she put it on stood up and out on the bathroom floor came a very healthy Maddox. They wheeled her into delivery with the baby in her arms, and they still charged  her  for a delivery becuase of the delivery of the placenta.
