Babies on the Brain

Okay, so I want to know...

Moms-to-be, what's been your most common craving? I'm still waiting for the day when I hear about a woman craving something weird like sardines and ice cream, but I'm always interested to know what everyone has been eating.

Re: Okay, so I want to know...

  • J-E-L-L-O

    Which reminds me...

:runs off to make nightly batch of jello:

  • I eat an orange a day. I love strawberries now that they're sort of back in season. I wish I could eat a chocolate cupcake with sugary frosting every day...but that one I won't make a (daily) habit.
  • I wanted carmel pecan rolls.

Speaking of which, I still want them.

  • Nothing particularly interesting.  I was on an OJ kick for while during 1st tri.  Lately it's green beans and Orange Gatorade (not together though).

  • Mine was skittles in early pregnancy and fruit throughout the entire thing.
  • Pizza lunchable and steak and cheese sub...

    ?

I had it for lunch today and it was AMAZING?

  • Weelass, is that jiggly Jell-o, or Jell-o pudding?
  • This reminds me - I still have leftover Jello cups in the fridge.  Wee - you can have 'em.

I also have Skittles leftover from yesterday, however those are all mine!

  • Jiggly jell-o.  LOL

We get the stuff from Ireland, not the Bill Cosby jello.

  • Steak-ums and ding-dongs.
  • I forgot about Skittles. I was craving them for about 2 weeks during 2nd tri.
  • I've been eating fried rice like it's going out of style.

    Sorry, I'm a vegeterian. What's a steak-um?

  • Coffee and oranges. Weird huh?

    Oh, and beer.

  • In the very beginning, the only thing I could eat was dry Cheerios and I would drink V8 with them.  That was probably the worst of it.  After that, mostly vegetables and fruits.  Toward the middle through the end, I wanted lobster bisque and crab legs all the freaking time.  After she was born, I was absolutely in love with Captain Crunch.  Oh yeah, and I actually bought pickles in the gallon jars during the pregnancy.  It embarrassed the heck out of my DH.  But I like pickles even when I'm not pregnant...
  • Did you eat the Cheerios and V8 together??
  • :grabs armando's jello and a spoon:

    Free jello!

  • Well, I didn't pour the V8 over the Cheerios like milk if that's what you mean.  I would put 3 Cheerios in my mouth and then take a drink of the V8.  When I told my mom what I was eating, she would just gag every time she heard me chewing or swallowing.
  • fruit all the time, and i went through a month or two of wanting mozzarella sticks all the time
  • Steak-ums are like really thin slices of meat that you cook up and make cheesesteak sandwiches with.

When I finally get pregnant, DH will claim "sympathy cravings" just so he can eat those like crazy!!

  • So here's a weird one for you. My great aunt craved river silt (dirt) while she was pregnant and after her 3rd child, whose now 54, she craved it all the time. Apparently being pregnant caused her to lose some mineral or something that was in the river silt. I'm sure now a days you could get whatever it was in pill form but then she couldn't so she kept a box of river silt under her bed and ate it when necessary.  No lie.

  • With my DD I craved lemons and red gatorade

With my DS I craved jolly ranchers and lemons

my weird craving was cucumbers dipped in sweet and sour sauce

  • I forgot one my husband found particularly gross.  I would eat peanuts and pretzels dipped in mustard.
  • I think the weirdest thing I have craved so far was pickles and lunchmeat, together. I wrapped turkey around a pickle the other day and went to town.

Oh and the person who mentioned river silt, there is Pica, that makes you crave weird things like dirt. My good friend craved Irish Spring soap when she was pregnant with her first. So strange the things we go through.

  • soontobeahigh - the best is to take ham and spread cream cheese all over it.  Then put a pickle in it and roll it up.  Then scarf it down.  It's delicious!
  • ICE!!

Must have a huge cup of ice all the time.

  • So far? Any food I can get my hands on:)

Yeah that is called Pica as another poster mentioned.  It can be really dangerous (obviously) and rarely does the item craved provide the missing nutrient.  I read a bunch of articles on it a while back because it sounded soooo strange.

  • I haven't been pregnant yet but:

My sister craved: FRIED CHICKEN TENDERS on COLD crisp salad with Honey Mustard Dressing, French Onion Soup and Watermelon....through the WHOLE pregnancy...and she would eat it every day, all day..she gained 70 lbs.

An ex of mine's mother told me when she was pregnant she wanted to eat the ashes out of the ash trays...her family would hide the ashtrays from her at resteraunts and stuff because she wanted to eat the ashes. Ick!

My mom actually did the pickles and icecream thing when she was pregnant with me.
