I'm just curious... what do you think is a necessity for the "nursery" or when bringing home baby?
I know you can get registry lists, but IMHO they seem so extensive and uneccesary, I am very simplistic and don't want to go overboard spending on things I don't really NEED...
Can anyone else relate? If, so what are your plans? Mine currently consist of the below:
Cradle (handmade for me when I was born, will use as a "crib" as well)
baby sling/carrier to wear the baby
car seat
possibly a stroller...haven't decided yet...
and obviously hygeine items ie diapers etc...
Re: Necessities
I agree the registry lists are filled with a bunch of stuff you don't actually need.
I think the swing is also something you need.
Other than the obvious 'big' items (crib and changing table, carseat and stroller) I think these are important:
Swing or bouncer
Pack n Play (I plan on keeping the baby in this the first few weeks next to my bed for overnight feedings before letting the baby sleep in the crib)
And for smaller items:
Diapers
Wipes
Diaper Rash cream
Sleepers or swaddleme's
Boppy
Bottles and accessories if you are going to use them.
Thermometer
Nail clippers
Extra crib sheets
How long are you planning on using a cradle? Not sure what kind it is but usually they don't double as a crib once the baby can sit up.
Really the only necessary things for me at first were a bed, somewhere safe to sit baby (swing, bouncer, etc....), breastfeeding and/or bottle feeding supplies, car seat, diapers, thermometer, clothes, burp cloths, pacis, blankets, and a stroller. I pretty much have every baby item that registries suggest and can tell you most of it is a huge waste.
***Edited to add Mylicon and Tylenol.
Crib
Pack n Play (using this as a bassinet)
diapers/diaper cream
wipes
car seat
Stroller
baby carrier
Breastfeeding supplies
bouncy seat
ditto on the cradle - you may need a crib later depending on what your cradle can handle, the one I had was pretty small.
I don't have much to add: I found a swing to very necessary, but I've heard each baby likes different things. Stocking the medicine cabinet is essential: gripe water, tylenol, thermometer, pacifiers, etc......
