Any Babymooners out there?

DH and I are thinking before baby #2 comes we should go on a little getaway - we were thinking the caribbean - we live on the east coast and don't want to fly more than 5 hrs.

any advice?

Re: Any Babymooners out there?

  • My husband and I planned a babymoon for the beginning of May.  I will be 20-21 weeks so we figure it's a good time, and we'll also be celebrating out two-year anniversary while away.  We are headed to Charleston, SC since we absolutely love it there.

  • Can't help with the location since our babymoon was to a hotel 20 minutes from our house for one night...but I think it's a great idea! Even after only 24 hours, we really felt re-connected and refreshed.

  • Turks & Caicos!  I swear it is amazing the water is like nothing you have ever seen before!  And even though the islands are British they use dollars.  DH & I went there for our honeymoon and had the best time!  So relaxing!

  • We're heading to Belize. ?It's a 6 hour flight from Chicago. ?Not sure where in East you are, but most of Mexico is close. ?

We LOVED Playa Del Carmen and Puerta Adventura. ?I didn't like Cancun, DH prefered the mainland to Cozumel.

I thought the parts of Jamaica and Barbados we visited were dirty.?

  • We're hoping to go on one but I've had a complicated pregnancy and it was suggested I not fly until after Madelynn is born. I am hoping my hubby will agree to taking the train to Chicago (about 3 hours from home) for a romantic weekend. But it has to happen before the 22nd of May cause that's when the doctor has me on house arrest (not quite but no more than 1 hour away from home). Good luck with your plans!

We were thinking about Turks & Caicos - which hotel did you stay at? TY!

  • I'm with you on the Caribbean.  We're going to the One & Only Ocean Club in the Bahamas in April.  Flights are pretty cheap right now too--$450 round-trip from SF to Bahamas with charter.

  • We're leaving in 2 weeks for a 7 day Bahamas cruise...CAN NOT WAIT! If you're considering a cruise most cruiselines won't allow anyone who is beyond 24 weeks, just FYI.

  • My husband and I are planning to get away together before the baby comes. But we will be going up north somewhere maybe to a cottage or a resort or something. No Caribbean for right now (more a money thing then anything else)

Oh and my sig is because the last time we went away to Ottawa we concieved and when I brought up a babymoon he said "Didn't we already do that" hehehe

  • We stayed at the Sands. But honeslty you can't really go wrong with any of the hotels.  We stayed on Providenciales island, and all of the hotels looked amazing!  check out this website for all the info you could ever need, and great hotel deals!  https://www.turksandcaicostourism.com/

  • I don't know if this counts as a babymoon since we are staying w/my in-laws, but I am having a good time on my spring break in Miami now.  The weather is great!
  • Ours is coming up! We're taking a cruise to the Western Caribbean, leaving out of Miami.  Hopefully all the M/S is gone by then and I can enjoy all the yummy cruise food!!  Someone mentioned earlier- cruiselines will restrict how late in your pregnancy you can be, and mine (NCL) requested a doctor's note stating my due date.

My husband and I went on a private sailing charter a couple of years ago in the British Virgin Islands...we island hopped to smaller islands around the larger island of Tortola.  It was absolutely amazing.  If we go to that area again, we would stay on Jost Van ***...absolutely heaven and very secluded.

We took a trip to Jamaica another time to stay at Sandals Whitehouse resort...it was smaller and on a private beach...brand new when we took our trip.  We didn't leave the resort b/c we didn't want to deal with the big tourist stops and peddlers and were perfectly content :)

  • Jamaica, Punta Cana or even the east coast of Mexico are all good choices for shorter flights.  Depending on the city, you can definitely get a quick flighta nd maybe nonstop.  Bahamas is also very close.

Apparently the island name got censored. The name is JostVanDyke if typing the name in all one word helps...again it is AMAZING!  The famous drink around the island is called a painkiller, and the little beach bar the Perfect Pineapple makes the best one of all.  It is a mix of fresh squeezed pineapple, coconut and orange juices, dark rum, topped with grated nutmeg.  It doesn't sound like much but is absolutely amazing.

  • We're staying at Sanibel Island in Florida.  It's right on the Gulf of Mexico, and you'd fly into Ft. Myers.  If you look on Orbitz, you can find some really great deals for reasonable (which, in my experience, finding affordable babymoons on the Gulf of Mexico or Carribean was a doozy)-then you can add whatever spa packages or activities that you may enjoy (it's just a short drive from Captiva Island-where you can go to the Everglades, and there are a few great spas in Sanibel itself)

Good Luck!  And also, be careful if you're thinking of Mexico.  I've been many times and had a wonderful time, but there is some unrest there right now (beheadings and the like) and the Embassy has issued a travel advisory that is holding until August 2009.

So it just occured to me that we are preggers and I'm recommending alcoholic beverages...at least your husband can enjoy :)  Maybe take a church sip if you have the chance. Well worth it.
