2nd Trimester

DH ran into a burning building this morning..

Don't get me wrong, I love my hubby to pieces and think what he did is great. I'm super proud of him, but it's sitting kinda weird in my head. Here's what happened ---

He installs cable and apparently the building next to his caught fire. He saw some old lady hanging out the window so he ran INTO the burning building and dragged her out.

He inhaled a lot of smoke and got some oxygen from the ambulance people, and they said he would be fine after he coughed up all the black gunk in his lungs.

I think what he did is great, but I guess it feels sorta irresponsible. Not only for HIS safety, but hello! We have a baby on the way. The other day he fell off his ladder and his brother says to him "you've got to calm down man, your wife is pregnant." which made him pause.

Ugh. He's an ex-marine so I guess he's sorta programmed for this thing but still it frustrates me.

He can't understand why the whole thing kinda irritated me.

When things like this happen, people go on automatic pilot and does what comes natural for them.  But yeah, he should try to think about what he's doing.

  • i wouldn't consider what he did irresponcible. scary, yes, but do you expect anyone to just look at someone obviously in trouble as not do anything? he had the means and thank god all worked out well. good for him.
  • I can see why you're a little shook up, but your hubby sounds amazing! Sounds like you picked a great guy!
  • well, at least you have a hero DH who will save strangers -- just think how heroic he's going to be for your LO to look up to and to be there for you and your LO anytime something even less dangerous comes about!

I know that you and we all are thankful that he's okay and are very proud of your DH!

  • Some people are born with innate sense of altruism; some people are not. You just fall into the latter category. Hopefully your baby will inherit your husband's good character.

Ok, that made me cry. LOL

Ditto.  It's just an automatic response to distress.

My dad dove into a canal to save a woman whose car went flying into the canal.  I was maybe 2 at the time.  He had been in the army and for him it was an automatic response.  My mom flipped out afterwards.

    Your hubby is a hero!

  • Marines are crazy, but in a good way.  All of those years of training have hims programed for action!  Just think, you married your own personal super hero!
  • I wouldn't worry to much...my DH is a firefighter so running into burning buildings is kinda part of the job description...and I worry about him, but I know he's trained and can handle it. Your DH prob. had some kind of training in the Marines for that type of thing. And also, think about it this way, life is dangerous in itself...anything can happen any day. So try not to be to mad at him :)

So you think because I care about my husband and don't like him putting himself in BAD situations, I suddenly have a character not suited for a baby!  Lovely! Next time, just don't respond. No

  • My DH is a firefighter, so even if he wasn't on duty and came across that situation, he would've been obligated to do something about it.  Of course he has training to back it up.  But I say consider your hubby a hero for the day.  I'm sure after seeing/hearing your concern, he'll think twice about things like that next time.

You can always count on me to respond.

Well then I hope for your sake, your baby inherits your bad attitude.  Karma is great like that.
