So Sean and I have been considering putting Kaitlyn in some sort of preK for a few months now. She is extremely smart, but needs a little more social interaction with kids her age than what she gets at home. That and I think she's getting bored of me, lol! She's really out going around close family and friends, but can be painfully shy when it comes everyone else.
We're looking into a local Catholic school near us (St. Max in Pines) that is offering preschool Monday thru Friday from 730-245. I'm freaking out because I feel like ditching her in school all day at way too young an age. At 4 I would be fine, but is 3yrs old too early for such a long schedule? She's completely excited about school and ready, undertands that I'll be leaving her there, and I know it's only going to be good for her in the long run, but I can't help feeling like this.
It's weird, I never thought I'd be like this. I've always been the kind of mom to not "baby" her kids, ya know? I think the main reason is that for the past 3 years of my life, my world has completely revolved around Kaitlyn (and now Hannah) and I feel so weird not having her around.
Ok, so this has now turned into a really long vent, sorry!

Re: I'm getting cold feet about preK
I know how you feel, but I promise you it is good for both of you. I started Noah a few days a week for a few hours and he cried when I picked him up, he wanted to stay. Now he goes 3x/week from 8:30am-3pm and loves it. When he turns 3 they require he go 5x/week (because it's a Montessori) and I'm ok with that. I will miss him but I have seen how much he has changed and learned since he started and it's worth it for us. I use my time without him to do things that are more challenging with two and to share quality time with Kate. If you do hate it, can she drop out? Also, remember that acclimating can take up to three weeks - for both of you.
Hugs!
Thanks girls, I so appreciate the advice- I def know it's more separation anxiety on MY side than her, lol!
Lauren, St. Max is charging $500 p/m- which is actually a deal considering other places are asking that much for 3 days!
We talked more tonight and there's another place in Plantation (Andover Academy) that offers a more flexible schedule. We're going to check it out tomorrow, but it is more expensive so we'll see. I think we may be more comfortable with a 3 day schedule and give it a little while to see how she adjusts. We're not really particular as to whether she attends a religious school (both girls will go to public school when the time comes) so if we like Andover we'll keep her there.
Thanks again!!!!
Erin
I just saw myself in your shoes since I keep saying 2 then 3 and now I am not sure. Eventually he will go to school...lol
Sebastian started going to a preschool program 2 months after his third birthday. He only goes three mornings a week. I go to Bible Study on one of those days and the other day I take Nate to his music class. I love it and so does Sebastian. All day would be too much in my opnion but I know some moms who do all day right away and it works out perfectly.
I think Kaitlyn would do awesome in school!!! My plan is to start Nadia once she's potty trained... I think the social interaction is important!
Good luck with whatever you decide!!!
