3rd Trimester

Is it more common to be early or late?

I have heard most girls are early and boys are late. Is that true? In general it seems like most people are early regardless, what do you think?

  • My OB told me at my appt this past Thursday that most first-time moms give birth between 40 and 41 weeks.

  • My ob said most first-timers are born closer to 41 weeks.  I have never heard anything about the sex having anything to do with it though.
  • I did a poll on here a few weeks ago.  230 new moms responded.  65% of their babies where born before their due date.  The studies I have seen have a similar number, with 70% being born by their due date.  I did not seperate out by sex, but I may do another poll and ask about only people having "natural" labor, not scheduled cs or inductions.
  • Most first-time moms tend to go late, though my son was born on his EDD and my nephew (also a 1st born) was born 1 day early.

  • My doctor told me most first time moms deliver around their due date (some a bit earlier, some a bit later) but that most (at least in their practice) go on their own by the 41st week and don't have to be induced

  • I have had 2 girls and am pregnant with my 3rd girl.  #1 was born at 35 weeks, #2 was born at 37 weeks, and my doctor thinks I will be early this time as well.
  • i've always heard that boys are early and girls are late.  i had 3 girls that were late.  i'm preggo with a boy this time and i'm REALLY hoping he's early but not crossing any fingers.  i've been asking a lot of people lately too if they were early or late and i've been hearing a lot of girls are late and boys have been early so....  i agree with those above though that 1st time moms are usually late.
