I am so not into made up names. I love nice, normal and spelled right.
I know a lot of girls here are not a fan of Amy/Aimee but Dh and I both love it.
I asked on another board about Aimee and everyone told me I made that spelling up.
But I swear I know quite a few people (esp. girls my age) with that name in real life.
Aimee is fairly common right? Or am I making this up?
Re: Do you think Aimee is spelled wrong?
I think we prefer Amy too. Aimee while I love the way it looks alone looks completely off with our last name which is full of a's and e's.
I just wanted to make sure I wasn't insane.

Aimee is my SIL's name. I am not into unusual spellings most of the time but I like Aimee.
You didn't make it up, but I don't like it. What's wrong with regular, old 'Amy'? Otherwise she'll constantly be spelling it for everyone.
I know an Aimee. However, her real name is Damien.
I know an Aimee and I prefer that spelling because it's not as boring as Amy.
While Aimee is the french version of Amy, it is not pronounced the same as Amy. (I am from Quebec). It is also a male name when it is spelled Aim?. Technically it should have an accent over the first e - Aim?e. (Granted, I am very biased over this as I am bilingual and lived most of my life in a french province).
My vote would be that if you are going to pronounce it Amy, spell it Amy. Plus, by spelling it Aimee she will be correcting people her entire life since the more common spelling in english is Amy.

Like others have mentioned, the origin is French, and it means Beloved Friend. ?I think there are more Amy's. ?But I knew an Aimee in high school, and I thought it was cool how she spelled her name. ??
Made up? That's the French spelling of the name and it is pretty common here too. Anyone who say's it's made up is just a bit ignorant (living in their own little world and not a very worldly one at that

I personally like different and unique spellings...I would go with Aimee. I would hate having my child have the same name as 10 other people in their classes just because someone was too boring to step out of the box to accept it. The name I have chosen for a girl isn't even listed in baby naming books or websites so I will probably be crucified for that...
Most of all, go with your gut feeling but don't let other people make that decision for you.
I much prefer Amy to Aimee, but I have seen Aimee before.
Aimee seems unnecessarily complicated to me. Like Meagan or Meghan (or even Meaghan) for Megan. Why add extra letters to such a simple, pretty name?
(although, I'm inconsistent on this one. I prefer Madeleine to Madeline!)
Also, to the person that said she'd have 10 other Amy's in her class, I haven't checked the SS site, but I'm pretty sure Amy is not very common these days. Seems much more common for girls my age (early 30's).
I was going to say the same thing - I know 3 Aimee's and only 1 Amy among my family/friends..
I like Amy spelling better.
I highly doubt Amy/Aimee is a name where there is a likelihood of having 10 of them in a class.
FWIW, as an Amy, I was the only one with my name in my HS graduating class of 600+. The only other Amys I have met IRL have been 10-15 years older than me.
Having said that, please spell it Amy.
Your future child will thank you.
