Bassinett

Are you planning on using a bassinett , a playyard or both during the first couple of months. I was thinking we needed a bssinett for our room and the playyard would just be ab extra but my husband thinks we don't need the bassinett. What are you ladies doing? TIA

Re: Bassinett

  • We are getting a bassinet...
  • Loading the player...
  • bassinett for us even though the babys room is litterly right next to ours still a bassinett in arms reach sounds good to me
  • Neither. We will just be using the crib.
  • I am thinking about getting a pack and play with a bassinet attachment and skipping the bassinet.  Just seems like it won't really get used for long enough to justify the purchase.

  • For the first few months, we'll be using a crib that my dad made for me when my mom was pg with me, and then we'll switch to a crib when he's a little older.
  • We're just using the baby's crib.

  • We got an Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper.

  • If I had to buy it my self I would just go with the pack n play, but my friend is letting me borrow the bassenet that she used for her baby!

  • We will use both as we did with DS. The bassinet (which is actually a hand made cradle that my FIL made when DH was a baby) will be next to our bed for night time sleeping. I will keep the pack and play downstairs for daytimes naps and daytime diaper changing. It is really convinient if your changing table is upstairs in the nursery to have the p&p downstairs so you are not up and down all day. Plus I was so paranoid when DS was an itty bitty of SIDS that I did not like the idea of putting him in the bassinet for a nap upstairs while I was downstairs- until he was older and moved to his crib of course.
  • Crib in their room, bassinett in our room, twin bassinett in dining area near kichen, pack n play in the basement..........so somewhere to lay on each floor........we only have to get the twin bassinett
  • I have a mini co-sleeper. I used it with DS and will use it again. We moved DS into his crib at 8 weeks so that is my goal for this time as well.

  • The only reason we have so many is because I have been to to many consignment sales....lol
  • We're just planning to use the bassinet in the pack n play
  • We're going to put a pack and play in our room for the first few months, then switch to a crib in baby's room.  I think bassinetts are cute but unless you have the extra money its not really worth it since a pack and play can function the same way and be used later on too.  I also like how the pack and play has an attached changing table and a bit of storage for diapers and other handy things for middle of the night changes.

Edit: also, the pack and play has added features that a lot of bassinetts don't like music and vibrations.

  • We're going to get the arm's reach co-sleeper which also have a pack n' play type feature for when they're bigger. :)

  • There is a cradle that is part of my husband's family My sister-in-law has it now for her 1 month year old. It's not worth buying one for such a little time. ?You ciuld use a Moses basket with a stand or packnplay
  • We are using the bassinett on the pack n play

  • We have a bassinet. (actually 2!) my bf lent us one and my cousin. so we will use one for our room and downstairs also.. Lucky

  • We registered for a bassinett and pack-n-play.  We have an old hand-me down bassinett that was mine as a baby (??) that we can use if we don't get the one we registered for.  We want both, but are only definitely getting the pack-n-play if we don't get it at our shower.
  • We were lucky enough to have both a pack n play and a bassinet given to us by friends and family. We'll put the pack n play in our room for the baby to sleep in for the first few months, and probably put the bassinet in the living room or the office (it has rollers) so the baby can sleep during the day and I can work on other things.

  • We're borrowing SIL's bassinet, and buying a PnP to keep downstairs. I wouldn't buy a bassinet though if we couldn't borrow one, I consider them a waste of money since the kid will only use it (if they even tolerate it, some won't) for a couple months at most.?

  • DH made a cradle for our little one
  • We have a PNP that can be used as a bassinett and we will either use that or see if DH's cousin isn't using hers anymore, if she will lend it to us.  I will feel a lot better if DS is in our room at least the first week.
