Just curious how everyone does it? Do you work full/part time and use day care, do you stay home, do you work a different shift?? I'm just curious. We want to start a family early next year and I am just wondering what other people do...what option you took. TIA!
Re: Day care or not?
We have not 100% figured out that dilemma, yet. We're saving $1000 a month toward at least partially covering daycare (it's around $1400-$1500 a month) but we're hoping when that time comes, I'll be able to go to part time or DH's schedule will be switched around enough that we won't need it at all.
I carry our insurance, so I doubt I'll be able to SAH all the time.
We don't have kids yet, but the general plan is for DH to be a SAHD.
He freelances writing and illustrating so he has the ability to work from home and has the most flexibility.
Plus at the end of the day I am probably always going to be the high earner.
DH and I both work M-F, him 7-5, me 8-5. DS is in daycare from 730-530...
I wish he wasn't there so long, but we don't have any other options right now. It works great though for us, Jake LOVES school (as we call it).
No babies for us yet, but I work part time so we are planning on hiring a nanny part time. I could find a part time nanny for the same price as full time daycare (most daycares around here do not do part time for infants). Once our child is 2 we would look into putting them into a part time MDO program.
We have discussed this so extensively b/c I worked at daycares while I worked on my master's and I absolutely refuse to send a child to daycare after that experience.
