"Bringing Baby Home" class

Has anyone taken the Bringing Baby Home class offered at New Parent Services (in Bellevue) https://www.family-services.org/get_help/parenting/bringing_baby_home.php

or the one offered at Evergreen Hospital?  How did you like the class and the instructor?  Did it keep DH's interest?  Thanks in advance!

Re: "Bringing Baby Home" class

  • We went and really enjoyed it.  Ours was offered at a different location (with different instructors), but I'm assuming it's pretty similar.  The first day was better than the second, but DH (who has not been super involved in the pregnancy until recently) was really engaged.  Which was a relief, 'cause I pretty much dragged him to it and he had to give up a weekend.  Ours was a full Saturday and Sunday so by the end of Sunday DH was a bit over it, but I think that would've been the case with any back-to-back class.  I would definitely recommend it though if for no other reason than it forces you to sit down with your husband and really think about how you'll support each other when the baby comes.

  • thanks for the feedback!  which location did you take yours at?  also i just noticed - we're delivery twins! (i'm expecting on 6/28 as well). :)
  • I wish that class had been around before we had DD.  I know one of the instructors of the evergreen class.  She's great!

  • Yay, June 28th!  I'm holding out hope for a June baby...I don't want to go late!

Sorry, I should have mentioned this in my first post. Ours was through PEPS.

  • I REALLY wish we had taken it!!  It's supposed to be really good.  I think it would be good to go to after the baby comes - at Evergreen anyway, it's OK to bring your baby...  I just think there's so much you would get out of it once the baby's here and you acutally can see what a life altering thing the baby is.

  • We took this class at Swedish after our son was born (he was a month early), and we got a ton from it.  It was so great to go to the class AFTER our baby was born because everything felt so much more "real" and we were actually living it.

Definitely take it.  Every expecting couple should (although I suggest taking it after your baby is born).

  • Just a note for any Microsoft families,  I think this specifc class is covered under the EAP benefit, cause it is considered a form of counseling.  (where as normal child birth / labor classes are not covered).  I'm not sure if the evergreen class is cover, but the bellevue one is.

I saw an email recently with a list of a number of covered classes, so you might want to go look it up on the benefits site (or make your husband do it if he is the employee)

  • It's a wonderful class.  I have not taken it, but I've read Gottman's "And Baby Makes Three" book. Bringing Baby Home is based on Gottman's work.  I know several people who have taken it and most agree it is best to take it AFTER the baby is born.  I mean, you can prepare yourselves all you want before the baby is born for how it will be, but you can never really know until after the baby comes. I'd say, read the book before the baby and take the class within the first 3 months after the baby.  Just my two cents.  :)
