Poll: Weight and Glucose Test/GD

I'm really nervous about my GD test next week. I just feel certain that I will have it, even though the only risk factor I have is being overweight. I wondered how close the correlation is with weight. If ladies who have taken the test could answer this poll that would be great!

Re: Poll: Weight and Glucose Test/GD

  • Ok, it posted before I was ready so it was missing the option for obese, no GD. Sorry! I swear I wasn't trying to skew the results, lol.

  • I thought I would have it too - I'm significantly overweight (not technically "obese" though) and I failed the 1 hour by a lot (my level was 210 - cutoff is 130).

However, I went on to pass the 3 hour with flying colors... none of my levels were even slightly elevated at the 3 hour - they were all well within normal limits.  So, no GD for me.

  • I am obese and according to my OB I only have a 5% increase in chance of GD, which isn't that much.  Try not to stress about it.

  • I was a normal weight prepregnancy although I hadn't lost all my weight from my first loss.  I wasn't overweight.

I was on bedrest - like you- that's what I thought did it.  But honestly, I think I might have had it even without lying down all day.

  • I wanted to add-My family is prediabetic (sister and mom).  Honestly, they may even have diabetes and not know it.  I think my mom does.  My sister had it with her son (has 2 daughters too).  She is overweight but didn't have it with her daughters which she ate sweets her entire pregnancy.  Not sure why....

I found it weird that I had it with a boy like my sister.  I exercise (unlike mom and sister) and watch what I eat, but diabetes is in my family.  So it could be the genetic link...i think you will be fine.

  • I'm 28 weeks, went from 128lbs to 146lbs so far and failed the 1 hour test recently.  I'm taking the 3 hr one next week.  I keep hearing how small i look so i'm thinking size doesnt' always matter.

  • Both times (14 wks & 28 wks) I took the Glucose test I failed the 1 hour - but passed the 3 hour within normal range.  Dr. said that was an indicator that I'd have a big baby.  My weight gain has been on the higher side.  It's as if all the carbs/sugars I eat stay with me or go straight to the baby.

    Good luck on your test

Good luck with your 3 hour! I actually meant weight before pregnancy, not how much you weigh/gain once pregnant, so I'm guessing you'd fit into the normal weight category in the poll.

  • hm.  i'm nervous too.

looks like the obese ones are the only ones without GD....

    **grabs some more chocolate**

  • I also didn't have a big baby, but my GD was very under control.  7lbs
  • Little late, but wanted to give my $0.02.

I was normal weight pre-preg.  Failed my 1hr. passed my 3hr. and I had a big baby (9lbs 9oz).  Diabetes runs in my family too. Oh, and before I had my GD test, I was measuring 2 weeks ahead.  At my 39 week appt. I was measuring just right.  You just never know.

Just watch what you eat before you GD test.  Watch your carb intake not just your sugar intake.

    GL!
