Popping in while Abby naps (it may be 5 minutes or it may be 2 hours - one never knows). Let me know if you have any questions about child birth (I had an epi after induction and gave birth vaginally) or about being a first time mom.
Pampers all the way. That is what the hospital used too. We put one huggies on her and hated the fit.
Breast feeding is a lot harder than anyone could have ever told me. We are having problems. Abby is not gaining weight so now I breastfeed and then H gives her a bottle. I have spent many nights crying over issues with breast feeding. My advice - try not to take it as a defeat if you can't do it. You should be enjoying your time with your child and if you are spending more time thinking about your failures then you need to step back and re assess. Also, get all the help you can if you want to bf. Don't be afraid to even ask friends that have breastfed to come and watch you to assess what you are doing. I would have stopped the day I came home from the hospital if my sister had not done this for me.
Vaginal delivery pain is not really describable but it really isn't a pain but a real strong pressure. Almost like trying to poop after nine months of constipation, but pp are right the pain disappears as soon as you push that baby out. Honestly I cannot even imagine trying to give birth without one.
Ok I totally misread the epi question - here was my issue - Abby bruised my tailbone on her way out therefore my pain was a little more painful than normal. In fact I still am in pain and can only sit in a hard chair for short periods of time. The vag pain was hard for a couple days but nothing that couldn't be dealt with with some motrin, witch hazel pads and hydrocortisone cream. Also, there is this stuff called dermablast that can be used. It is a spray for hemroids but great for a vag delivery too. It is a little pricey so hospitals no longer carry it. I would suggest grabbing some for your hospital bag though. Also remember to ask for extra witch hazel pads and bring your spray bottle home iwth you. (you will know what I am talking about soon enough).
What I can't live without in the first few days? My boppy for one thing. It was great to help with feedings and also just to hold the baby. You are so tired those first days it really helps to have something for your arms. We also had diaper stations set up all over the house which helped a ton. Remember that you can't use wipes on a newborn, so make sure you have tons of washcloths nearby. Also, even if you are breast feeding, I suggest getting some enfamil ready to use nursettes. Abby would not latch that first night my milk came in and screamed bloody murder. H gave her one of those nursettes and thank god he did or I would have probably jumped off the roof.
Hi Katie! Abby is such a cutie! How long after you delivered until the epi wore off...my biggest fear is not feeling my legs and freaking out! I'm sure in the moment, I'll be thinking of the baby instead, but I keep thinking about numb legs and I don't like the thought of it! (Of course, I don't like the thought of pain either!!)
Honestly, I never had a complete loss of feeling in my legs. As for the full wear off of the epi, it was pretty quick. I was walking to the bathroom within about 30 minutes of having it removed so it was really quick.
Gotta jet but if others have questions I will check back.
