3rd Trimester

Anyone with low fluid levels or leaking fluid?

My dr. scheduled me 4 more u/s, one a week, to check my fluid levels.  I was told to push fluids, but also told that drinking a lot wont necessarily increase my amniotic fluid.

Has anyone been told they have low fluid?  What happened?

It is also making me wonder if I am leaking fluid, but I dont know.  How would you be able to tell the difference between leaking amniotic fluid and urine?

I have an appt. Monday and I will talk to my dr. about all of it, just looking for others opinions and experience.

  • DoubleDiamond had low fluid levels, her doctor had her push fluids, and now she's back in the normal range...she just gave us the update today. Good luck to you!

  • Mine is low. I was able to up mine 4cm by drinking TONS of water and resting so I do believe that it can help. I wasn't as good last week and moved around too much and they went back down so now I'm starting the drinking and rest cycle all over again and not being laxed this week.

If you or your doc thought you might be leaking, they would have checked that by doing a swab test then looking at it under a microscope. I think it's really hard to tell for yourself if you are leaking unless it's very obvious. The later you get in pg, the more watery your CM may become which is super confusing. The best test is to lay down after an empty bladder, if the leakage still occurs and gets on your panties then it's a good idea to at least get checked just to be sure.

  • I have it with both of my pregnancies.

My first pregnancy I was put on bed rest 3 weeks before my due date because it was so low and had to go to weekly NST.

This pregnancy I haven't been put on bedrest yet, thank goodness.

For me, there is a direct correlation between how much fluid I drink and the level of my amniotic fluid.

I drink over 80 ounces of water a day and that has helped keep my level in the normal range, although it is on the low end of the spectrum.

Up your fluid intake before your next ultrasound and see if they see a difference.  Good luck!

  • Two weeks ago my fluid was showing 6 (whatever that means) and they told me to drink plenty of water.  I have been chugging it ever since.  Today my level was 8 so YES it did help.

That is low girlfriend. Drink up!!!!! Anything < 5 is considered to be getting in the dangerous category.

She took the words from my fingertips!  ;)

I drank a TON of water and got my levels up by quite a bit.  GL to you!

  • A couple months ago I had low fluid. I was told to drink a ton of water and put on modified bedrest. I had to cancel a trip to NY because of it. 2 weeks later I had a songram and the fluid was a tiny bit higher, but not much. 2 weeks after that, fluid was better, but still on the low end of normal, but baby is measuring perfectly. I've been keeping up the water intake and taking it easy as much as possible. I am allowed short walks around the neighborhood, but that's about it.
  • My fluid's low.  I've been told to drink a lot and take it easy.  I'm seeing a high-risk OB on Monday for a detailed ultrasound.
