3rd Trimester

Rh- ladies...

I read a post from earlier and someone mentioned how bad the rhogam shot hurt. Those injections come with a needle but it is huge! When you get your last one at the hospital be sure to tell your nurse to switch out the needle with a smaller one. It makes all the difference in the world. The nurse at my doctors office told me this when I got mine a couple of weeks ago.

Re: Rh- ladies...

  • Mine didn't hurt that much, if at all...the nurse said she was sure to warm it up before administering it (she took it out at the beginning of my appt which lasted an hour because of my glucose screening and gave it to me at the end) and it was fine. Maybe the painful ones are due to cold medicine being injected? I don't know...it was injected in my right butt cheek if that makes a difference. :)

  • Thanks, I'm going in for my first one next week. I'll be sure to check out that needle before I drop my drawers.

I appreciate the notice! I hate shots! (Yea, I know, I'm in for a shock when labor comes)?

  • I know everyone's tolerance for shots is different...for me I honestly didn't even think it was that bad - I was expecting it to be worse than it was.
  • It's not too bad.  Just ask if they can do it in your rear.  Honestly, I've been through it twice now.  Well 3 times, because you'll get another one right after you deliver.

    GL!

  • I got mine 2 weeks ago. The nurse at my doctor's office said her's hurt alot and she got her's in the arm. I went to the hospital and got mine in the butt and it really wasn't bad. I guess it depends on were you get it. No big deal really. :)

  • I've had 2 (one after each m/c) and neither one was very painful. They do it in my Dr's office though (don't have to go to the hospital) and I've always gotten it in the butt.
  • Mine did not hurt as bad as the phenergan shots they gave me. It was sore a little afterwards though.
  • I am deathly afraid of anything to do with needles and honestly mine didn't hurt a bit. I actually didn't even know when she did it. I think getting my blood drawn is 10x's worse.
  • I have had the shot 4 times now (during each of 3 pregnancies and after one of them...you only need it afterward if the baby has a + blood type).  This last time it hurt more then the other times.  It just stung a little as it went in but it wasn't bad at all.
  • I just got mine today - in my right butt cheek.  My husband was watching and said the needle was like 2 inches long - yikes! - but it didn't hurt, and I don't feel any soreness from it now.
