Having baby before due date

Just wondering how many of you had your babies before your due dates, and those that didn't were you induced or did you just go a couple of days late naturally?

I'm 39 weeks tomorrow and for the past two weeks there's been no progress. I'm still 50% effaced with no dilation (not even fingertip). My doctor is still convinced that the odds are in my favor to not have to be induced, but I don't see how that's possible considering I"m not even dilated!

i was 50% effaced and a fingertip for 5 weeks. ?i went into labor on my own at 41w.

I was in the same situation as you (50% effaced, no dilation).

I didn't start dilating until exactly 41 weeks and then I was induced b/c I wasn't progressing.

If I had to go back and do it all over again, I would have asked for some meds to help me sleep, went home, and gave it some more time to see if things would happen on their own. My water didn't break...so it's not like there was a reason to be in a hurry to have him (well, a medical reason...of course at that point I wanted him out!)

I started contractions at exactly 38 weeks and went from 0 dilation to 5-6 cm in a few hours. However I was 75% effaced at my 36 week appt.

When I was 39 weeks I was thinking that I would surely go past my due date. I had my last check-up at 39w2d and I was only 1cm dilated, but that doesn't even say much. You can go from no dilation and right into labor. Meanwhile some people can go around dilated for weeks with no progress at all.

On 12/3/08 I was 39 weeks and 4 days, I was having contractions that started at 5am and my water broke at home around 6:30pm...I got to the hospital at 7pm and my daughter was born at 11:25pm. So eventhough I was only 1cm dilated the day before her birth, it seemed to happen almost out of nowhere and VERY quickly at that!

My water broke at 38 weeks, 3 days. You don't necessarily have to become dilated before labor starts, you can become dilated during labor too...I hope things go well for you!

My water broke on its own at 37 weeks 4 days. ?I was 70% effaced at my dr. appointment about 5 days before that.

I was a fingertip dilated starting at 37 weeks. No change at 38 week appt. Started getting contractions at 38w 4d, had DS the next day.

I wasn't induced, I was 3 cm. dialated since 38 weeks, and I was 90% effaced by my 40 week appointment, but my baby waited until I was 41 weeks and 2 days pregnant before making an appearance.

You just can't tell. GL to you and enjoy these last few days/weeks.

I delivered at 36w 5d, my water broke. At my doctor appt. 1 week prior I was not dilated at all.

My water broke at 39 weeks exactly with no signs whatsoever of labor. No dilation, less than 50% effaced at the doctor two days earlier, no cramping, DS never dropped, no bloody show, etc. When we got to the hospital I was 3 cm and fully effaced... so there's def. a chance!

I had my baby on my due date. I thought DD was never coming out since a few days before her due date I had no braxton hicks and didn't feel any differently. An hour before my water broke my DH asked if I was going to ever go into labor ... I laughed. An hour later my water broke, contractions started?immediately?2 minutes apart lasting for 1 minute ... DD arrived 4 hours later. Sometimes it just hits with out much warning!

I had to be induced for pre-e, so I'm no help, but I will say that my mom was not dialated, effaced or dropped when she went into labor (though she was 11 days overdue) and had me in 6 hours. Some people will show progress for weeks and still end up with an induction, some woman don't show any progress until the baby is actually coming.

I went 4 days early. I had absolutely no progress and then at 39w3d I went into labor. Had my son at 39w4d. Don't give up hope.

I was 50% effaced and 0 dialated. My water broke at 38w 3d. I ended up needing a c-section due to a fever and infection in the membranes.

I went into labour early when my water broke at 34w4d. Everrything was normal for 34 weeks the morning I had the baby regualr doc appt. I went from barely dilated to 8 cm going from the docs office to accross the street to the hospital. By BFF had bh and false labour start around 30 wks and was dilated starting about 38 she had a cs at just over 40 wks. Everybody is different.
