I haven't been out running since bfp due to feeling feeling nauseous and tired in the first tri, then too bouncy in the second. And now, well, I'm happy to get a walk in. But as the weather is getting nice, I can't stop daydreaming about going for a run. When I see other runners, I feel left out. My midwife said maybe 6 weeks pp and I can think about starting slow because the pelvic floor muscles will have taken a beating.
Re: Any runners?
I started running again after one week of being home after DS and loved every minute. I fully intend on the same routine with this one. My advice start slowly and listen to your body, if it's too much stop. Otherwise enjoy
I feel the same way! I was too sick and tired in first tri, and it felt awful when I tried in 2nd tri. And it's perfect running weather right now!! Sigh...
I haven't asked my doctor yet, so it's nice to hear the 6 week estimate. I could be out by late July or early August - just in time for it to get really hot!
hehe - I can't decide weather I'll be really out of shape because I have cut back my workouts, or whether I'll be in good shape since I've been breathing and circulating blood for two!
I know!!! Today was so gorgeous... I am a walker too now but it's temporary, my last run was a 5K on Valentine's day (nearly 8 ms pregnant then). I cannot wait to get back into it, I miss the feeling (that goes for exercising in general! I am so not used to not working out!)
I feel lucky I have a treadmill in the basement and can start shuffling again while watching the little one while asleep...
I've already signed up for my next big race, a marathon in the fall, and I'm also going to do a Sprint triathlon this summer. I need goals to lose the weight
No better motivation than a finish line and a clock!!?
?
I ran until mid 2nd tri... and then it was just too uncomfortable. First, it was just awkard with a growing belly- felt like running with a full bladder all the time. Then, my pelvic pain was just WAY too much. I am still power walking, but I watch other runners out on the road and ENVY them.
My doc says since I was in shape pre-pregnancy, and have continued with a fitness routine while pregnant, I should just listen to my body- it will let me know pretty quickly whether I'm ready to run again.
I can see that- within 3 strides I knew when it was time to STOP running, so I have a feeling it will be the same when I START- it will just feel right.?
I may sign up for a few races as motivation--good idea. There's a 5K run/Walk on mother's day that I would LOVE to do (walking). I'm due April 20th--that seems like enough time to be able to walk.
One week pp--that's awesome! I think that it would really help with winding down and stress, etc.
Thought I would chime in since I am on the other side. I ran up until 1 week before Shelby was born. My OB is allowing me to run once I feel up to it. The bleeding is pretty heavy initially and you cant use a tampon after birth so my first run will be this weekend (3 weeks out) with my BOB Revolution.
That being said I have already been able to elliptical and do weight training and I feel like I could easily run it is just really hard with leaking breasts, pads, bleeding and uterine contractions until about 2 weeks PP when things start to regulate themselves.
Thanks for your imput--it's good to hear from "the other side." 3 week pp--that's awesome! Congrats mama--I hope to be where you are in a couple of months.
