Those of you that like crab rangoons, they are actually really easy to make at home, and really inexpensive, too. I used to order them when we ate out, but I tried making them at home, and they are exactly the same.
All you need is wonton skins, cream cheese, and imitation crab meat. Super easy, 3 ingredients. I have a recipe if anyone is interested.

Re: NGPR: Crab rangoons
Mmmm I had some with lunch. I love them.
Here's the recipe. It's a little long, but there's pictures and stuff, so you can follow along:
This recipe will give approximate measurements to make about 9 wontons. Use more/less, depending on how many you want to make.
Ingredients
- wonton skins
- cream cheese
- imitation crab meat
These are the ingredients I used (you can use any brands, doesn't have to be these):
In a small bowl, make the filling by combining 2-3 large spoons of softened cream cheese with 3 crab sticks. If your cream cheese is not softened, you may need to microwave it for a few seconds. Hard cream cheese will not mix with the crab well, so make sure it is soft.
To fill the wontons, place a small scoop of the cream cheese mixture in the center of the wonton skin.
Dip a clean finger in some water, and run your finger along the edges of the wonton skin. It needs to be moist in order for the skin to stick and seal easily.
Take the four wonton skin corners, and bring them all up and towards the center. When the corners meet, gently press in both the center, as well as along the seams running down the sides. Wrapping in this fashion will create a shape such as this:
If you wanted to, you could also make simple triangles by bringing one corner its the opposite corner.
After your crab rangoons are wrapped up, deep fry in a pot of oil that has been heated to low-medium. Drop your rangoons in the oil (bottom down) and fry for about 1 minute. Watch carefully as you are frying, as the skins brown pretty quickly. Once the bottom has reached a light, golden brown, turn your rangoon upside down so that the top side can also fry to a nice, golden color.
All done! Serve with sweet and sour sauce, hot mustard, or sweet chili sauce.
My stomach is a raving monster now. Your pics and instructions were so wonderful, I'll have to try it! thanks!
I usually eat them alone, like as an appetizer or snack. Or sometimes I'll have them with a meal if we're having rice with other stuff.
Oh, wait - do you mean sauce-wise? I usually dip in sweet and sour sauce, or sweet chili sauce. Hot mustard can work, too.
Sorry! But you know, you've got a 99 Ranch Market in Vegas. You can probably get the crab and the wonton wraps there.
lol, no, I meant with a side dish or as a snack....I read the sauces you use in your recipe post
thanks for the idea, I've never had them and they sound easy enough!
Oh, gotcha. Well we have rice almost every night (with some kind of meat, some kind of veggie, and sometimes fish or some other seafood). So for me, at least, these go great any day of the week.
Look above. I posted it in this thread.
