Pregnant after 35

Lactose intolerant anyone?

Ugh!! I have always been lactose intolerant, but could always have some dairy in small amounts. Not anymore!! I am 6 1/2 months along and for some reason eating only one slice of cheese is killing me!! I made the mistake of testing my theory to see if this was truly what was causing me such pain and discomfort (dummy me) and boy am I paying for it!! Any one else notice this during your pregnancy?

Another question. Most of my family has a dairy sensitivity, either straight out allergic reaction or horrible intolerance. Is it safe to assume that my baby will have the same issue? Should I just skip trying normal formula and go for the soy instead? I can't breastfeed due to medication I take (although it is completely safe to take during pregnancy, you can't breast feed). Thanks in advance for any input!

Re: Lactose intolerant anyone?

  •  I think I went through phases of lactose intolerance. I found that ice cream was the biggest culprit. I rarely eat it because if I do eat it & suffer after, it's sticks in my mind a long time. I can easily go 6 months without it. When I do eat it, I only have a small cup and as long as I don't have any other dairy within that day, usually I am fine. But if I have some cereal w/milk the same day, it can very well put me over the limit.

I haven't had any problems since becoming pregnant, but I did switch to Lactaid whole milk. Something I have noticed is I really don't have any digestive problems of any kind anymore. (knocking on wood) I have always had somewhat of a sensitive stomache, my stomache was always making funny digestive noises & I'd sometimes get gasy after certain foods. last friday i ate 5, yes 5, slices of pizza. Didn't bother me a bit. Before pregnancy, I think I would have been in some pain with that. I'm thinking the baby is taking it all in & I'm not affected by it. Yay!

My neice never had allergies to any foods. Her brother, he had problems with everything. He ended up having to drink soy milk or rice milk. I'd try regular milk first.

  • I had issues before pregnancy and like you, those issues have increased.  I used to be able to eat cheese just fine as long as it was just like a slice on a sandwich.  I drink soy so I haven't tried regular milk while pregnant.  The cheese, on the other hand, gives me the blues!  I just stick with soy and yogurt.
