Is Emme (Emmie) a nn?

DH and I cannot agree on any girl names we like.  We both like Emmie, but is it a "real" name or just a nn?  I think its cute now but I am just afraid of how it would be when she got older.

Re: Is Emme (Emmie) a nn?

  • I think it can be it's own name, but we are considering using Emme as a nickname for Emmeline (which can be pronounced Emma-line, Emma-lynn, or Emma-leen... we would pronounce it Emma-line).

Emme could also be a nn for Emelia.

  • personally i think Emme can be used a a first name, but Emmie looks more like a nn
  • I have a dear friend who's NN is "Emmie" or pronouced that way.  Her name is Mary Elizabeth and the nn is derived from her initials, literally M.E.

  • I think emme could be its own name
  • One of my girls is named Emily and we call her Emmie as a NN.  I would go with Emme instead of Emmie.  I think it's a nice name.
  • I personally think its a nn, but you can do whatever you want w/ it.
  • I had a class mate in college named Emi (that was her full first name) so to me it could go either way.  I think to most people though Emmie is a nn, not sure if Emme is much better.  It looks more like a real name, but its pronounced the same (which by the way Emme might lead to mispronounciations) .  I agree that Emmie might not got well as she gets older, can you picture a CEO named Emmie?

Both seem like nn to me. Do you like Emily? You could call her Emmie.
