3rd Trimester

Blood Pressure Question

So I have an appointment tomorrow with my Dr., but I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this.....

I started swelling in my ankles/calves and fingers last week (grooves where my socks are and had to take off my rings).  Today I had some lightheadedness and slightly fuzzy vision.  I question the accuracy of supermarket blood pressure machines, but I took it anyway and my BP read 141/80 (my typical at the Dr.'s has been closer to 118/60).  My rational side says just ask at my appointment tomorrow, while my hypochondriac side is freaking out.  Someone give me permission to relax?

Re: Blood Pressure Question

  • I wouldn't freak right at this moment since you have an appt tomorrow. It's not dangerously high but does need to be addressed in the morning. Esp. with your other symptoms.

  • It sounds like it could be the start of pre-e. I think you will be fine until your appt. tomorrow... but calling never hurts.

  • It is common. I had this problem with my first pregnancy. Those were the things I experienced so it's quite possible. Watch you sodium intake and def. bring it up to your doctor. It sucks dealing with it when you are already uncomfortable from being so close to term. Keep your head up and I'll keep you in my prayers tonight! goodluck.
  • drink lotsa water tonight to keep your kidneys workin ( i know it doesn't sound logical to drink water when you're full of fluid)  and relaaaaaaax with your feet up... since your appt is tomorrow, you should be fine.

    good luck!

  • I'm going to dissent from the others since my clinic has sent me to the hospital twice in the last week to be monitored for high BP. (One of the times, my numbers were 138/82, the other they were 153/92.) Call the clinic and ask--they may have you go in. 31 weeks is a bit early to be messing with BP problems.

Sorry, and good luck!! I'm sure everything is fine, but you can never be too careful.

  • I had this too....except I never checked my BP until I got to Dr. I called to tell them I felt 'funny', had HORRIBLE swelling and fuzzy vision. The lady on the phone said "swelling is normal in pregnancy" and I was like I realize that but its really, really bad. I had an appt 2 days later, OB induced me on the spot for pre-e at 36w4d. BP was 150's/100's and rising. Def bring up symptoms tomorrow even if BP went down at appt. Good luck!

  • Edit: I see that you're 37 weeks, not 31. I credit the fuzzy vision from the high BP for that blooper!
