Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Help Needed!!!

Hello!  I am at my wits end with my almost six-month old baby boy who just won't stop crying unless I am holding him.  Even then, he is only happy if I am up and walking around and sometimes even then he is crabby and crying.  I am a stay-at-home mom and we have been stuck inside for three days because of really bad ice and snow and I am losing my mind!  My husband was gone for two days on a road trip and wasn't able to come home today for lunch either and I am counting the minutes until he gets home so he can take over for awhile.

Enough venting though...I am writing to anyone out there who had a similar situation and got through it.  People keep telling me it's a phase and that it will get better but he almost six months old now and it seems to be getting worse somedays.  Please someone tell me that it does get better and that he won't always want to be held!!!  Thanks so much!

  • How is he sleeping (both at night & during the day)?

  • I haven't had a hold me phase, but I have had some really tough days to get through. ?So with that being said you will get though it and I certainly think being stuck inside does not help at all.

  • Thankfully he sleeps through the night about 11 hours and then takes 2-3 naps a day usually about an hour long.  Luckily I'm not sleep-deprived and going through this but his wake time should be a fun play time and it isn't, for him or me!
  • Is he fussing or does he have the water works going?  I have no problem letting DS fuss it out for a few minutes b/c usually he'll pass out, if it's waterworks then I hold him and do whatever I can.  We've had our days of nothing but walking around too.  Maybe he has a tooth coming in?  Do you have a sling or carrier you can wear him in?
  • I went through this when Jack was 0-3 months.  He needed me to hold him in order to not cry or to sleep.  So.... I held him.

I'm sorry!  I wish I had better advice!  Good luck.

If you think something is wrong, ask your pedi.  But unfortunately, if your instinct says nothing's wrong, then it could be any number of impossible baby things-- teeth, etc.

A lot of people would recommend babywearing to you.  That didn't work out so well for me because I couldn't find the right thing (I advise against Maya Wraps), and Jack got big quick (he's 23 lbs now!!)-- that with my being reall petite made it too hard to wear him.
