Our son has always been a phenemonal (sp) eater. He still pretty much is. But i have noticed a change in eating habits. Dont know if its because hes more interested in doing anything and everything. He has awesome eating days and then really crappy ones. but i have some questions and am curious how others are dealing with or how your baby is doing in the "food department". TIA
1. hows baby eating now? Do you have days where they pig out and then then the next they just have a really sucky eating day?
2. Has baby kinda "favored" a certain food item and is less interested in other foods.
3.Do you give baby choices when itsbreakfast, lunch or dinner if they dont really want what you have given? Or if they refuse to you just basically let them deal with it?
4. Does your baby prefer one meal over the other for example: a huge breakfast, not thrilled with lunch and eats a good dinner? But snacks during the day also?
Re: So.. a couple of questions for you girls well more than a few..
1. hows baby eating now? Do you have days where they pig out and then then the next they just have a really sucky eating day? : He is a very unpredictable eater. It's mostly with dinner. Some nights he eats his meal and then some. Other nights, I can't get more than a few bites in him. If he won't eat, I might try one more thing. If that doesn't work, I generally offer a bottle (that will stop soon though!)
2. Has baby kinda "favored" a certain food item and is less interested in other foods. :Not really. It comes and goes. He loves pb&j, but generally doesn't like hot dogs.
3.Do you give baby choices when itsbreakfast, lunch or dinner if they dont really want what you have given? : Usually no. I find that he just doesn't want to eat in general, I dont think it has anything to do with the food. I will sometimes just try again later though.
4. Does your baby prefer one meal over the other for example: a huge breakfast, not thrilled with lunch and eats a good dinner? But snacks during the day also? : He eats breakfast, lunch and snacks well. Dinner is our main issue. He hates the highchair and gets very fussy in the evenings.
1. DS eat well, but he does have days that he is not that interested in food and others when he is eating non stop all day.
2. He usually goes for yogurt, peas, tortillas, toast, cheese, are our go to foods.
3. Small range of choices but choices none the less, ex: yesterday DS wasn't that interested in his yogurt at first but after having some of my rye toast (who knew?) he was ok with it.
4. He generally eats a great breakfast and lunch, the other two meals he eats tends to be on the smaller end of things.
1. hows baby eating now? Fiona has always been a terrific eater eats anything and everything but for the last week she is not such a good eater.. NOt sure why seems since she turned 1.
2. Has baby kinda "favored" a certain food item and is less interested in other foods. Yes she likes prunes they are a favorite.
3.Do you give baby choices when itsbreakfast, lunch or dinner if they dont really want what you have given? Not really i read in a few books to not keep trying you will be making special meals for them the rest of their lives and i don't want to start that!
4. Does your baby prefer one meal over the other for example: a huge breakfast, not thrilled with lunch and eats a good dinner? Lately yes she will eat one good meal a day and that's it ?? not sure what is happening
1. hows baby eating now? Do you have days where they pig out and then then the next they just have a really sucky eating day? Yes, she will have days where she will eat anything and everything and other days where she is picky.
2. Has baby kinda "favored" a certain food item and is less interested in other foods. Yes, she likes her mac n cheese, cheese and bananas are always a favorite
3.Do you give baby choices when itsbreakfast, lunch or dinner if they dont really want what you have given? Usually I will give her a spoonful of something. Then if she picks at it and doesn't eat it I will move on to something else.
Or if they refuse to you just basically let them deal with it? No, i will move on to something else. I think its important that she gets a meal and doesn't starve
4. Does your baby prefer one meal over the other for example: a huge breakfast, not thrilled with lunch and eats a good dinner? But snacks during the day also? It depends on the day and her mood. Sometimes she will eat a big breakfast other times doesn't eat much at all. I just keep trying to give her different foods and make sure that she gets enough to eat despite what it is.
1. hows baby eating now? DD has always been a picky eater but she's doing better and better. Do you have days where they pig out and then then the next they just have a really sucky eating day? Definitely. Some days I'm amazed at what a great eater she is and think we've finally made it! Then the next day she hardly eats and I feel like we're back at square 1...
2. Has baby kinda "favored" a certain food item and is less interested in other foods. yep. It changes week to week (day to day) though. For a while she lived on peaches and apple sauce.. then cheese and yogurt.. mac and cheese.. she loved the Gerber Graduates ravoili for a week and now refuses them.. kinda frustrating kiddo!
3.Do you give baby choices when itsbreakfast, lunch or dinner if they dont really want what you have given? Or if they refuse to you just basically let them deal with it? Since she's a picky eater, I'll usually try a couple (no more then 3) things out in hopes that she'll eat. Usually though, if she doesn't go for the 2nd thing she usually just doesn't want to eat and we'll try again later.. even if it's been hours!
4. Does your baby prefer one meal over the other for example: a huge breakfast, not thrilled with lunch and eats a good dinner? But snacks during the day also? DD rarely eats a good breakfast. I don't know if she's like DH and just isn't hungry at breakfast, but it's a hard meal for us.. Lunch is usually great and she'll eat whatever and a lot of it. Dinner is about 50/50 whether she'll eat well or not.
She also has 2-3 snacks a day. Depending on how breakfast went, she might have a mid-morning snack (usually an Earth's Best granola bar), she always has a mid-afternoon snack (sometimes 2 depending on how early lunch was..) and sometimes a before-bed snack if she didn't eat a good dinner.

1. How's baby eating now? Do you have days where they pig out and then the next they just have a really sucky eating day? DD eats fairly well. She's a little picky, but I can usually get her to eat balanced meals. There are days when she eats a little more or a little less, but there aren't really days where it's all or nothing.
2. Has baby kinda "favored" a certain food item and is less interested in other foods? She definitely favors fruit and anything with cheese.
3. Do you give baby choices when it's breakfast, lunch or dinner if they don't really want what you have given? Or if they refuse do you just basically let them deal with it? She likes breakfast and lunch foods, but sometimes she refuses to eat what I give her for dinner. I think she's too young to have choices, so if she doesn't eat her dinner, I give her something that I know she'll eat instead like tofu.
4. Does your baby prefer one meal over the other, for example: a huge breakfast, not thrilled with lunch and eats a good dinner? But snacks during the day also? She loves breakfast foods because they tend to be sweet (oatmeal with yogurt, pancakes with applesauce, etc.) and lunch foods because they tend to be cheesy (grilled cheese, cheese tortellini, macaroni and cheese). She has a harder time with dinner because that's when I try to get her to eat protein (chicken, turkey, fish) and vegetables. I give her fruit after every meal, but she doesn't always eat her vegetables.
1. hows baby eating now? Do you have days where they pig out and then then the next they just have a really sucky eating day? DS waxes and wanes. He was having a really tough month in January, but I think it was because he was sick all the time.
2. Has baby kinda "favored" a certain food item and is less interested in other foods. No. We don't allow this to happen. Whatever we are having for that meal, he is having for that meal. If he doesn't like it, I will usually give him a snack later on.
3.Do you give baby choices when itsbreakfast, lunch or dinner if they dont really want what you have given? Or if they refuse to you just basically let them deal with it? Ditto from above
4. Does your baby prefer one meal over the other for example: a huge breakfast, not thrilled with lunch and eats a good dinner? But snacks during the day also? He typically eats best at breakfast and most poorly at dinner.
Just FYI, I highly recommend Ellyn Satter's book How to Get Your Child to Eat...But Not Too Much. It talks a lot about how to avoid bringing up a picky eater. The biggest thing I had to learn was to not get frustrated when DS won't eat. They thrive on that attention. GL!
1. hows baby eating now? Do you have days where they pig out and then then the next they just have a really sucky eating day?Yes, some days he is hungrier than others. I think that's normal.
2. Has baby kinda "favored" a certain food item and is less interested in other foods. Absolutely! He loves cheese, toast, carrots, waffles, yogurt, oatmeal, hates meat. We just keep trying new foods though.
3.Do you give baby choices when itsbreakfast, lunch or dinner if they dont really want what you have given? Or if they refuse to you just basically let them deal with it? Breakfast is always the same:yogurt and oatmeal and a blueberry waffle
4. Does your baby prefer one meal over the other for example: a huge breakfast, not thrilled with lunch and eats a good dinner? But snacks during the day also? Yes. He loves breakfast. Lunch is usually good but not always. Dinner can be tough b/c it is usually when we try new foods.
Also, I have heard that appetites at this age can drop. They are concentrating on learning so many new things that they are just to preoccupied to eat sometimes. DS seems to be eating less overall but I'm not really concerned. I think it is probably a phase.
