Babies: 0 - 3 Months

How long did you wait to take out DC?

I'm supposed to wait 2 weeks before driving but now I'm thinking that was just a recommendation. I haven't taken drugs since the first day home and my bottom feels great.  I'm dying just to go to BRU because I need some more BF supplies and to the grocery store to get some good food.

I mentioned it to my friend that I might go today or tomorrow and she started making me feel guilty and now I'm starting to second guess my decision?!

  • With the girls I was out around 2 weeks PP. But that's because I can't be housebound for too long - i go stir crazy.

With DS, I had to wait at least a month because of cold/flu season - he was hospitalized at 16 days with RSV........?

  • I took ds to the mall when he was 1 week and I drove
  • We took DC out at 1 week for her pedi appt and then we went by my office to show her off. My mom drove since I could not drive yet.
  • Took DS out at 5 days old.  DH and I had to get some things at BRU.  I put DS in the sling and hoovered over him.

  • Thanks for asking this question.  I was wondering the same thing b/c I need to go out and get some more items for me and baby.  My FI has been great at running out to get things, but a little fresh air would be nice for all of us.

Plus I am dying to use our travel stroller.

  • Thanks! I wanted to tell her that but then again I second guess EVERY thing that I said I wouldn't before he was actually here.  I guess it's just mother's guilt lol.

I'm definitely going to get out of this house today or tomorrow!

  • We took DS out around 10 days old, so a week after we got home from the hospital.  The only reason they say to wait to drive, as far as I know, is because of the pain meds, so if you're not taking them you should be fine!!  There is no danger to taking the baby out now as long as they aren't sick and you bundle them up if it's cold! :)

  • we waited a few days, DD was born on a monday, and by the weekend we were at friends and family's houses.  By the next week I was so stir crazy we went to the mall.
  • We first went out when DS was three weeks old. However it was the dead of winter in Minnesota, so I had a good excuse!
  • We took DD out around 1 week old and it went very smoothly. Don't feel bad, if you think it's okay, trust your decision.

  • 5 days old.  I was just really anal about not letting anyone touch him.  I'd rather come across as the crazy overprotective mom than a mom with a sick baby.
  • 1 week to go to family's house, 1 month to take her to the store. I went out on my own before that. I was told the reason they tell you not to drive is that you have to have a full range of motion to look before backing up and you also have to be able to stop quickly without being in pain.

  • Meh, we've been going out for a few days now, to stores and breakfast and dinner.  No one touches her and she seems fine.
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
