1st Trimester

charting BBT + having a nightmare?

I've been charting my BBT religiously every morning, and found out a week ago that I'm pregnant (yippee!). Question: I've been hovering around 36.7C (around 98.1F) throughout my luteal phase/early pregnancy, and have been taking my temperature at 6am sharp.

Last night I had an awful nightmare (about someone turning my wedding dress into a salad...? go figure!), and woke up sobbing at 4:34 am. My temperature was 36.2 C - way below my coverline. I went back to sleep, and woke up with the alarm at 6 am - my temperature had dropped to 36.1 C. I woke up at seven, and it had dropped again to 35.9 C.

By then, all of that beeping and fumbling was driving my husband nuts, but at 8am I took my temperature again and it was 36.7C. So, beeps and bumbling aside, I am more than a little worried. I know that nightmares can theoretically  affect your BBT, but am concerned with the continual dropping of temperature around my usual temp. taking time. I'll admit - I'm more than a little worried, what with the "a sudden drop in your BBT can signal an impending miscarriage," bit in the TCOYF book. I have had a chemical pregnancy before, so I'm a little bit on edge!

Re: charting BBT + having a nightmare?

  • Stop temping! Right away. Hide the BBT! ... It's not worth your sanity.
  • Loading the player...
  • once you get your bfp, you need to stop temping - it will drive you insane!
  • your going to drive yourself crazy!!! try not to worry so much, find out when you can see your doctor......Keep saying your prayers, and remember no matter what happens, that is what was meant to be, and nothing you could do is going to stop what god intended!!! GL with everything and keep us posted!
  • STOP. CHARTING.
  • step away from the thermometer - it will do nothing now but drive you insane!
  • did my husband put you up to this? Wink He was so excited when we got our BFP that the second words out of his mouth were - "now you don't have to wake me up at 6am every day anymore!"  That sounds like a reasonable thing to do. *sighs, puts away the thermometer*

It's hard though, there's so much to worry about in early pregnancy, and so little that you can "monitor" for your peace of mind, you know? (but then again, how much "peace" is that piece of plastic actually giving me?! :) )

  • DH hid mine so I couldn't find it. There really isn't a reason to continue temping. A few of my favorite Success after loss Mantra's are "My past does not dictate my future. A previous m/c does not mean I will have another m/c." and ""There is nothing I can do to prevent a m/c from happening. Worrying yourself sick doesn't prevent a m/c. And if (gods forbid) it were to happen again, I know I will survive."

  • I agree with PP.  Before I knew I was pregnant (I tested late) my temp was all over the place.  It confused the hell out of me because I didn't know I was pregnant.  There's so much going on with your body these days you can't expect it to have a consistent temperature.  Especially on nights like those.
  • @Mrs Sandro: that's a really lovely thought! I'm just going to take that and tuck it away somewhere for when I get the first-tri-worries again! Thank you!
  • yeah definitely stop charting

  • My OB said to lose the thermometer. I am glad I did. I am already an obsessive compulsive tissue checker. I don't need any more neurosis.
