S/O Diaper Bag question

I really like the idea of using a larger tote for a diaper bag and then also using it as my purse and not having to carry 2 different things.  But then this morning I was thinking that don't you leave your diaper bag with your kid sometimes?  Like I always see diaper bags at our church nursery and I would assume if you drop your kid off with grandma/grandpa or another family member you would leave your diaper bag with them.  I'm not sure about regular daycares, if you leave you diaper bag there too.

Do people get a second smaller diaper bag for these occasions?

    We registered for 2.  A larger one and a smaller one for quick trips.  They are gender neutral so DH won't mind carrying them.

    Yeah, I would have a second bag for that reason. Also because I'd like DH to take the diaper bag when he takes the baby somewhere without me.

    DS has a separate bag for daycare.

    I use my diaper bag as my purse, too - i do not carry 2, but if i'm going to drop DS off at my moms, etc - i will bring a separate purse and just take out my wallet and makeup bag from the diaper bag- and leave the diaper bag. It's not that difficult.

    i always keep a little tote type purse in my car- so i can easily remove my wallet and take just that into a store, etc, if i don't want to carry the whole big diaper bag.

    all this diaper bag stuff makes me worry that i will never remember to grab things. 

    "ooo i've got everything in the diaper bag!  oh no, where's the baby?"

    or i'd lose it.  that's why i couldn't have a $400 bag.  i know i'd lose it.  or spill something all over it.

    Yes, that sounds like a good idea.  I will have a bigger purse like diaper bag and then we will also get another one that is gender neutral one as well for DH and to leave places.

    With my first: I always had this big wallet that carried all my important stuff & money (check book, debit card, etc) and i would just drop it into the diaper bag and if he went to grandma's- i would just take my wallet out.
