What to give to priest that will do the baptizing?

I asked the parish if there is a fee and she told me no but some people give a little something to the priest.  Any ideas?

  • I am trying to figure out the same thing!  I was thinking of a nice pen.  Priests use pens a lot, right?

Or what about a nice bottle of wine?  We are Greek, so I know it will be put to good use, don't know if that would be appropriate for you.

  • Hmm.. we never gave anything to the priest after either baptism but we did put a little more in the offering that week than we usually do so I guess it's the same thing.
  • When I asked the board moms this question last fall when DD was baptized the dollar amounts were all across the spectrum from $0 to $100, so I asked a few couples in our church with young children if they would mind telling me what they did.  I think it is very different parish to parish.  The average at our parish was $10-50.  We did $30 and also gave him a book from a local Catholic store called "Daily Reflections from the Popes" it was short 2-3 line reflections written by various popes, one for each day of the year.  He really liked it.
  • Yeah don't give him a pen or some crap.  When they say "give something" they mean money. It's definitely a monetary donation they are asking for.
