So here's the thing....My Husband and I are trying to get pregnant. We've done all the right things in order for the right timing. We had sex on and around the day of ovulation, and I was sure that this was it!! So the eager beaver that I am, I took a home test. POSITIVE!
So we made an appointment for the next day at the doctors office for a proper test and a prenatal check-up. I was soooo excited to go to the doctor, so they call my name, and I go back with the nurse. We're walking down the hall, not even in the room and she says,
"When was the 1st day of your last period", I answer, and she looks at me like I have three heads. She says to me
"So you're not late yet", and I said,
"Nooooooo, but i had a positive home test". Then she said
"Well that doesn't mean anything, I had a girl last week with 3 positive tests, and when I did a test on her & it was negative, so I can't test you until you're a full week late, you'll need to go make another appointment" and she left.
I was Shocked! Defeated, I went home with my husband. It's been a week since then, I have my new appointment scheduled, and since then I've taken another test, positive again. I'm also having every symptom sign of pregnancy, but since this is my first, i feel like, what if the home tests were faulty??
Should I go buy a different brand of tests and pee on everyone of them!!!!! haha, my husband would say yes, just so i'd stop stressing about it. My appt. is in a week, and still no period, but i'd like your thoughts.....Also I've read everything on "False Positives" and none apply to me, it wasn't an old test, & i'm taking no meds.
...What do you think?? Stressing for no reason?? Could a home test pop positive 6 days after conception??
Re: False Positive Pregnancy Test??
follow our blog!
I'd be bugged they didn't test. Could you go to a clinic?
I spent a lot of time looking through all the positive charts on Fertility Friend. Look through their archives. That would give you a good idea about when people get positives. If you mis-calculated on your ovulation your positive sounds a lot more likely!
Good luck and consider changing OB's.
Stressing for no reason. It's better for you to wait for your missed period to go to the doctor, as most doctors will take that as the best symptom.
Just chill and go next week....you are most likely pregnant.
R U Serious? I called my OB 2day and told them my last cycle was Feb 12th or 13th. I;m not due to come on my cycle, if I wasn;t pregnant until this Thursday or Friday. I tested this past Saturday....way b4 my cycle was due.( 2 sticks 1 digital, and one stick 2day) My appointment isn't until April 1st though. I think false positives are rare, and the fact that you've taken several tests to me says you are PREGNANT!!!
Pay them no mind! She sounds a bit nutty!! lol!! GL!!
DD - February 2011
I have heard of a few getting a BFP 6 days after O. Me, I was 9.
chip - the probability of you having a false positive is highly unlikely. The nurse you spoke obviously didn't care to explain to you why tests are positive and then turn negative.
This is called a chemical pregnancy. I've had 2. Let me give you an example: 1/9/09 BFP and 1/19/09 (week later) I got my AF. I had my betas done and basically they don't double and you end up getting your period. This is also known as failed intrauterine pregnancy when the baby fails to properly implant. The causes can be from your lining to chromosomal issues.
The nurse not testing you is absurd and I would look for another doctor IMO.
I highly doubt you are having a Chemical Pregnancy and you indeed may be pregnant. Just wait it out or find another doctor that can see you sooner.
I wouldn't freak out- waiting a week sucks. But if they took you now and did the blood work, they would need to wait 2 days and do it again. Then you'll most likely wait a week to do the next draw. And then you get to wait until much later to actually have an ultrasound.
Enjoy being pregnant- it's all about waiting and feeling anxious
I don't think (actually I HOPE) the nurse didn't mean to tell you that false positives are common .... these are extremely rare.
BUT the problem with testing before your missed period is chemical pregnancy. It happens so often (and most times, if you're not charting or trying to get pregnant you don't even KNOW it happens) that many OB's offices won't see you until your first missed period..... because chemical pregnancies are common.
If you are still testing positive after your 1st missed period you are pregnant. Congrats!!!
Unless you read the test after the 10 min time period it is almost 99.99999% impossible to get a false positive. Likely that girl sadly miscarried or had what is known as a blighted ovum.
As for the nurse you were unlucky and met one of the worlds many insensitive health care providers (I have a theory for every 15 amazing ones there is a rotten apple in the group).
Try not to worry! A line is a line is a line
Sounds like a very insensitive OB practice. Why would they even schedule an appt just to turn you away? They should have asked some simple questions before they set the appt, and if that is their policy, set the appt for after your expected period. Instead you dragged your ass down there just to have it turned away? That first appt is very exciting, and she was not very considerate of your time or feelings. I would look into a new OB, or if you love your doc, write a letter about what happened and why you're disappointed in them.
Don't keep peeing on sticks though, LOL! Like another poster said, "a line is a line is a line!" Good luck.
I agree with the pp. They should have asked you some questions before they scheduled your appt. and wasted your time. False positives are very rare although my friend tried to tell me that poppy seeds could give you a false positive - LOL.
Most likely you are pregnant, enjoy and find a new dr.
ditto and congratulations!
Those nurses can be so insensitive. Mine wouldn't even set up an appt until I had a positive blood test but mine does have you get the blood test the second you get a positive HPT regardless of your LMP. I would try calling your primary doc and see if they will order a blood test for you if you don't want to wait the week.
B/C if you feel pregnant and you have a positive you most likely are. Like the other girls said, its rare to get a false positive.
Just curious: how soon after ovulation did you test?
I can't believe she wouldn't test you until you were a full week late. HPTs are generally considered accurate from the first day of your missed period, I believe. And false positives are rare.
Congratulations!!
