I'd love to hear your thoughts/goals/experience on overall Pregnancy weight gain.
I'm a bit concerned, as I'm already overweight, but quite tall (5'11")
I'm also just under 4 weeks, but can seen the scale already move up a couple of pounds.
My goal is 15 pounds, but I wondering how realistic this is.
Also, what are you doing in terms of exercise?
I'm planning to start walking each day {though it's been super cold here as of late}, as I know how important this is for my health + the baby's.
TIA
Re: Weight Gain + Exercise
I'm not sure if you want my answer or not
I am up 16 lbs in the first tri! YIKES! However, I know why and it's definitely getting easier. At the first of my pregnancy, I just felt bad all the time. So I constantly ate things to try to settle my stomach. Salad and greens don't settle my stomach
I just ate a bunch of junk. I probably ate half my weight in pop-tarts! However, now that I am close to the end of the first tri, I don't feel nearly as sick and am actually getting back a lot of energy. I've just started walking and working out again.
It really does get easier.
I try to take a walk everyday at or after my lunch. I go to the gym and do some light weights, abs on a yoga ball and about 30 minutes on the elliptical trainer, I make it there about twice a week on average. I have been missing my yoga due to the house remodelling and FIL staying with us but I am going to try to go at least once a week.
I have put on about 9 lbs so far but was about 20lbs heavier than my normal wieght when I got my bfp. I am sure I will put on more as I am starving all the time right now.
Well, I'm 5'10. My ideal weight is 155-160. When I got married I was 165 and I looked pretty good in the photos. Then I gained 10 pounds in the year and a half after the wedding so I was 175 when I got pregnant last December. I gained another 10 pounds (185) during the first trimester and my last weigh-in on Monday was 189 at almost 16 weeks!!! Still, you're supposed to gain 1 pounds per week after the 1st tri so I think I'm OK. I'm not eating as much as the beginning of my pregnancy, I get hungry but not ravenous like before.
The important thing is to eat healthy when you feel hungry and not deprive yourself. This is not the time to diet, we'll take care of that after the baby.

I gained only 15 lbs. when I was pregnant with DS. I had m/s for 20 weeks and no appetite. Then I got the early diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes at 24 weeks. So I quit sweets and counted carbs. I hated it but I only gained 15 lbs. ?
I am now 25-30 lbs. below my pre-pregnancy weight.
I barely exercised but walked some. I had a July baby and could not take the heat.?
The first tri, a lot of the weight is just bloat. And I understarnd, its hard to eat right when food makes you sick or you cant stand some. I for one was downing pizzas and bagels with cream cheese throughout the first tri. But as I eased into the 2nd, I started to have a taste for fresh fruits and veggies. I no longer craved grilled cheese or cheeseburgers.
Its hard, but I think if you make sound diet choices, and combine with exercise, you should be OK. And you know when you're bad. I was bad yesterday...had ice cream from Rite Aid.
I am 5'10" and also overweight. I was originally hoping for 15 lbs overall, but have already passed that, sadly.
I gained six pounds first tri. Like pp, I ate a lot to stave off the nausea, and all I could get down was carbs.
I am almost 24 weeks and up 17 pounds total. The doc hasn't said anything yet, so I am just trying to eat alot of fruits & veggies and try to stay away from too much junk food.
I have gone through phases with the exercise, but the most I will do is walk, which is my mornal exercise routine.
GL!
I too am overweight. I was told to shoot for gaining 15-20 lbs. I am currently at 17 weeks and up about 4lbs. Someone posted the following link and I really have found it useful. It allows you to see things according your your height and weight. I will note that while my doctor asked me to work to stick to 15-20 lbs, she said she would not fuss at me for gaining more.

As far as excercise, I have started walking in the last few weeks and have walked 2 miles a day at a good pace (14.5 minute miles). It has helped not to put too much weight on as I have found that I am more hungry in the last few weeks and therefore have been eating more. I am focusing on eating healthy and getting in my fruits and veggies.
I have read that starting at 21 weeks the baby can taste what you are eating through the amniotic fluid. I don't know how true that may be, but if it is, I would like my child to taste fruits and veggies and hopefully that will help to develop their tastes for healthy foods. I have heard people say that their children love the foods that they craved while pregnant...and subsequently ate a lot of. My craving has been fruit. Let's hope my little one loves fruit!
Hope this is at least a little bit helpful.
I don't exercise and didn't before I was pregnant. So because of that, my doctor doesn't want me to start now?beyond walking up to 2 miles per day. That will be my exercise.
My pre-pregnancy weight hovered around 135 (give or take a pound) and I'm 5'4". Not overweight but not thin. I was where I should be. At my first OB visit (6w4d) I was 139 and was 147 at my last one (15w)?a gain of 8 lbs in 9 weeks. I go for my next visit on Monday and just hope I didn't gain more than 3 lbs or so. I want to keep my total weight gain to around 35 lbs (no way will it be just 25).
I'm probably a bit obsessed with weight. I had put on a bit when I was in my early 30s. I joined Weight Watchers and lost 36 pounds in 9 months and kept it off for over 6 years. I know I can do it again, but think it will be harder at age 39 than it was at age 31.

Hi I am 5'10 and was already overweight also. I am at 15 weeks and so far my weight gain has been 1 pound. I did not have morning sickness and the doc told me no exercising in the first tri due to some spotting. She did release me on Monday to start walking. I am amazed it has only been one pound, I feel like I am eating everything in sight but I work hard to make sure it is food that is nutritious very little junk. I am just waiting for a huge gain at some point.
My OB is incredibly old school. His BIG thing is that I walk 2 miles a day and take my vitamins and Omega 3 daily. Outside of that he doesn't obsess over my weight. I gained 40 lbs (!!!) with DD and was already overweight when I got PG with her. I managed to lose it all just in time to get PG with #2, although lost about 30 lbs of it in the first 9 months (I was BF'ing)
I'm only 5'2 and started out heavy (147). I've gained 20 lbs so far and it's bugging me; I'm hoping to only gain 30, but as long as I'm eating well and still walking, I'm trying not to let it get to me. I gained 4 lbs over the weekend even though I ate healthily.
If you're concerned about tracking what you eat, you could check out babyfit.com. They will recommend foods for you or you can input what you eat, and also track exercise.
