Water intake...how much are you really drinking?

I have only been able to drink a full 8-8oz servings of water once in my life. I forced myself and had to constantly think about it. I usually am good to drink 2 or 3 8oz glasses. I am worried about the possability of dehydration and it causing contractions. Are you all seriously drinking 8 glasses a day? I have heard so many mixed reviews on whether or not we really need that much water. I'm going to talk to the dr. at my next appointment. Just trying to get thoughts from others. Thanks!

Re: Water intake...how much are you really drinking?

  • I'm drinking about 60oz a day and peeing about 80oz.  I was told to drink that much because I have dizzy spells (doc thinks from being dehydrated).  I do seem to feel better these days...

  • I have low fluid and have to drink a lot in order to keep it up.

I drink probably close to 80 ounces a day.  It is really no fun and I am in the bathroom all day long.

  • I drink so much but I crave it!

I have a 32 oz bottle and I fill it at least 2x per day.

  • I am so thirsty! I drink at least 64 oz a day...probably more!
  • I take a 32 oz. water bottle to work with me and finish that by the end of the day. ?I try to drink another 32 oz. when I get home, but it's hard sometimes. ?So, I know I drink at least 32 oz. a day.
  • not enough.

probably about 32 oz a day, which is what, half of what we're supposed to have?

An 8 oz glass is tiny- are you sure that's all you are drinking?  What about adding fresh lemon or lime to it.  I do that sometimes to change it up.  I also make mine ice ice cold!!

  • Not nearly enough. My doc said I need to be drinking 80 oz/day and I'm lucky if I get half that. I really need to work on that!
  • I can't say exactly how much I drink, but I definitely drink at least 64 oz. if not more everyday.

  • I try to drink at least 64 oz... We stock pile bottled water...
  • In the 7 hours I'm at work I usually drink about 80 ozs... then probably another 40-60oz when I'm home.  I didn't really realize how much I drank until I stopped to think about it! I find if I don't have at least 30 ozs in me by 9am I get shaky and light-headed.
  • I don't drink nearly enough water on most days. Sad

  • Do you REALLY want to know how much water I drink? ?

    Okay, here goes.

At LEAST 128 ounces (four liters). ?And that's just plain water, not including 8 oz. juice in the morning, a cup of decaf at work, and the occasional Sprite in the evening.

(Water helps keep my irritable ute from getting irritable, so my doctor said literally to drink as much water as I'm humanly capable of drinking.)

You know what's crazy? ?My pee is still never totally clear, so I know my body needs all of what I'm taking in.?

  • My drinking glass is 20 oz and I probably drink 5/day. I've always drank alot of water.

  • I drink SO much every day, but I always have (I was tested for diabetes as a teen because I was always so thirsty).

    • for breakfast I have 12 oz of milk
    • after breakfast I start on probably 64+ oz of water
    • 1-2 mugs of red raspberry tea a day

    I'm insane with my liquids!

  • At least 1.5 gallons each day. I know that to be true as I measure with my Sigg bottle. I pee every 25-50 minutes.
  • I fill my Nalgene bottle 3 times each day...so 90 ounces...

  • I drink a lot...at least what I'm supposed to each day, if not more.  But it doesn't all come in water form.  Try drinking something else, and liquid that is decaf.  It all counts-juice, Crystal Light, decaf iced tea, milk -- all of it keeps you hydrated.

Good luck!  I wouldn't worry about it too much though.....drink what you physically can -- don't torture yourself!

  • I try to do at least 64 oz.  I haven't been as good this week, and the tech actually noticed on today's ultrasound.  She said my fluid was "a little low" and asked if I'd been leaking.

  • I am drinking a ton.  my contractions really pick up if I don't, plus I feel parched and I generally feel better the more water I drink.  That being said I don't keep much other than water in the house, so I really have nothing else to drink../

  • I have a sports bottle that fill 32 oz. so i know for sure I finish one of those, I refill it twice a day but sometimes I don't finish the second refill. I try though.

  • I drink at least 64 oz a day, but usually a little more. I am so thirsty, I just can't stop! I read somewhere that you need at least a gallon a day to replace the amniotic fluid properly, but that for sure doesn't happen for me!
  • I try to abide by the 64 oz rule everyday, but it can be tough some times.  You can certainly tell the diffference when you do not hydrate enough though, that's when I get a lot of BH contractions and leg cramps at night. So, I try to make an effort and usually can tell that I am ok by the lack of contractions throughout the day.

Like someone else said, you can do it with juices, non-caffinated drinks, gatorade, milk...whatever makes you happy!

  • i take a 32 oz bottle to work with me everyday & make sure i finish it before i leave. i refill it 2 or 3 times after work. so around 64oz or 96oz.

thats not including the juice, milk, soda

try adding lemon and lots of ice & see if that helps you drink more. or try drinking that flavored vitamin water.

  • After my trip to L&D 1/2 a gallon of water alone each day. It's becoming habit now.

Ditto- I bought one of these early in my pregnancy and keep it at my desk.  I also drink an additional bottle of water at home in the evening, so that's an additional 24 oz.

    So altogether, probably 110 oz.

  • At first I was only drinking when I got thirsty which was maybe 3-4 glasses, but lately since baby has been putting more pressure on my bladder I'm always thirsty and constantly drinking. I probably drink 16 glasses a day which seems to be exiting as soon as I drink it.
  • I drink two 1.5 liter bottles a day. sometimes a little more.
  • i usually try to drink about 80 oz a day. i don't drink sodas or anything else so water is my only source of liquids- i also notice a big difference with my feet swelling when i get enough water and when i don't.
