Pregnant after 35

I'm back from the doc's office...

He wouldn't do the CVS test. He said that since the chance that the baby is perfectly healthy is 99.4%, and the rate of complications of the CVS (going in through the cervix)  is 2%, he isn't willing to take the risk. He also said he couldn't go in abdominally because of where the placenta is located (or something like that?). So....as freaked out as I was earlier, I feel so much better now. He told me I was silly to worry because he was really pleased with my odds. He scheduled me for level 2 u/s on April 8 (I am scheduled for level 2 bloodwork on April 3). I told him I wanted an amnio at the same time and he was fine with it.

Thank all of you ladies who have been so supportive and helpful. I can't express enough how encouraging your words have been to me.

  • I'm glad you're feeling better and I hope having the amnio next month completely alleviates your fears.

  • Oh good, i'm so happy that you're feeling better about it all.

I'm telling you - a .6% that something is up?    There isn't ONE pregnancy, whether you're 22 or 50, that doesn't have a small percentage of a chance that something is not quite right-  but geez, a less than 1% chance?  I'll TAKE IT!  LOL!

The amnio is *no* biggie, and this from the big needle weenie - moi.

    :)

  • Yay!! That is fantastic news and your Dr seems to have such a great attitude....I totally agree....less than 1%.....yahoo!!
  • That's good news. And at the level 2 ultrasound he will look at every possible part of the baby and look for signs. If the u/s is good, you might change your mind and not want an amnio. That was my experience. Either way, it will put your mind at ease. Everything will be fine.
  • Oh, good! I'm so happy for you.
