Baby shower invite wording input...

I am designing my baby shower invites to help my Mom out.  I only have to pay shipping if I do them because of a discount I get.  Anyway, I wanted your input on the wording.  Most people who are invited probably won't be able to make it due to distance but my Mom wanted them to feel included anyway.  So she wanted invite wording that would let people know that we would rather have them there, but if they can't that we understand and still would like them to participate.  Sort of like a card shower for those who can't make it.  So here is what I came up with...

It's a Baby Shower

Bottles, Diapers, Laundry in a Heap

Janice is Having a Baby Boy and will Soon be Without Sleep!

Please help us celebrate the arrival of Janice and Matt (last name's) first on June 27th, 2009 at 2:00.  We understand the distance is far, so if you can't come by car, help us celebrate from wherever you are.

 Thanks ladies!!

Re: Baby shower invite wording input...

  • That is so cute!
  • Loading the player...
  • it's cute. so long as there are instructions somewhere on what they are supposed to do from afar. i'd be confused if that's all it said.
  • I think if I got an invite that said that, I would assume they were requesting gifts be shipped if I was unable to make the trip.

I may be the only one though.

    ????

  • It sounds good IMO! Cute and rhyming Smile

  • How do you celebrate from afar? I think I get what you are trying to say but it sort of looks like "We know its far so if you cant come just mail the gift" a little.
  • Maybe celebrate with us rather than help us celebrate?

I am super-cautious about anything that might come across as a ?gift-grab.

"Help us," might come across as a way of saying, if you can't come, just send a gift.?

    JMHO?

This...may want to explain that a card or congratulatory message is all you seek so it doesn't seem like you are gift-begging.

  • I think that's cute.  When my sister's baby was born, our other sister and I HAD to do a long-distance shower because they moved across the country from our entire family.  They took video of her and her dh opening everything and eating the cake we sent and emailed it to everyone and sent handmade thankyou cards.  Rough, but very cute in the end.
  • I love it!  Nice job.

    ???

I was thinking the same thing. Kinda presumptuious (sp???)...... I would do a regular invite wording and just call those people or email and let them know that you understand they probably wont be able to make it but you wanted to make sure they knew they were included...

  • It's a cute rhyme, but IMO, it sounds like you are wanting me to send you a gift if I cannot make it there.  Is there something else they could do?  Like maybe send their favorite baby tip, etc. that your mom could make a book out of?  Just a thought.

    I think that's a wonderful idea!

  • I love the rhyme, and personally don't think I'd consider that as "send us a gift" but can understand where others are coming from.

Maybe "if you can't come by car, join us in celebrating wherever you are"? or "we'd love to celebrate with you, but if the distance is (too?) far, know that we're thinking of you, wherever you are"??? I know that changes it alot... but there's a few options!
