Question about starting Clomid

Hopefully you girls have some insight and have some advice for me:

I am at least 2 days late for my period. Usually it is fairly regular, but i have skipped months before in the past. This month, I am supposed to call immediately upon getting my period to schedule my tests, etc. to get started on Clomid. But still no period!! I took 3 preganancy tests... all negative.

What should I do if I don't get a period this month? Wait till next month and see if I get one in April, then start the process? Or can you start the Clomid process without a period???

Re: Question about starting Clomid

  • this is my first cycle on clomid.    it is pretty important that you take clomid during certain days of your cycle, and that your tests and monitoring happen on CD3.   so i would think that if you didn't get a period this month, you'd just wait until you did get a period.     i hope AF shows!

  • This hasn't happened to me before but from reading other girls posts if your period extends a certain amount of days then the ob can give you provera I believe to start your period but you have to call your ob & let them know you haven't started.  Yes you have to have a period so you know the exact days to start the clomid. Like mine has always be on cd 4.

  • Your dr would probably give you a blood test to make sure you are not pg, then prescribe Provera or Prometrium to bring on AF.

I started Clomid either on CD 3 or CD 5.

  • They will most likely prescribe provera to induce AF.  However, I've taken Clomid on different days of my cycle before and my RE said as long as your lining is very thin and your ovaries are "quiet" that it didn't have to be cd3 to start.  My first cycle of Clomid and with the RE I had an appt on like cd11 and he said I could go ahead and start it that day.  I just reset my cycle on Fertility Friend and called that cd3 and took Clomid for 5 days.  I did get a BFP but it was a c/p. I know there were a few others on this board that did something similar at some point when I asked about it.  GL to you!

  • I never start my period at the right time and my clinic gives me until CD 35 - then I call with a negative pg test and get my prescription for Provera - but they WILL NOT give it to me before CD 35, no matter the number of negative HPT I've taken. GL

  • Do you know for sure when you ovulated?  Did they do a P4 test 7 days past ovulation?  Were you charting?  In other words, how did you know for sure which day you ovulated to make you late?
  • I have to wait until CD40 to start Provera (after a BFN) and will start Clomid for the first time next month on CD 5-9.  You definitely have to wait for AF to start Clomid.
