Transitioning to whole milk question...

Hi.  My DD recently turned one and we are trying to transition her off of formula and the bottle.  She only takes her formula warm, but we want to break that habit since at daycare they give cold milk.  I guess my question is, if your DC only liked warm formula, did you continue to warm their milk or did they eventually just adjust to cold milk?  Thanks.

Re: Transitioning to whole milk question...

  • I still warm DD's bottles, but just barely. She won't drink a cold bottle but will drink cold milk out of a cup! Wierd. But whatever, IDC. She only gets a bottle when she wakes up and before bed, so if she were in DC she'd get cold milk in a cup anyhow.

  • We have been transitioning DD for the past few weeks.

I give her cold milk in a sippy and she likes it! She only gets a bottle in the AM and PM.  I still have to help her hold her sippy some times but half way through she manages to do it on her own....same for bottle.

You can try making the milk room temperature so that she slowly gets used to taking it fridge temperature.

A lot of pedis recomend the cold turkey approach.  It may mean your DC will struggle for a few days but then after that he/she just adapts.

  • We started giving DS his formula a little less warm every time.  We also would add a little more whole milk every time.

  • Started giving her warm milk in a bottle and then slowly transitioned to cold milk in a sippy.
