Ferberizers - need some advice

DD goes down well but has been getting up A LOT at night.  Do you do the same thing in the middle of the night as you would do at bedtime?  5min, 10min, 15min?  In your experience, how long did it take?

Re: Ferberizers - need some advice

  • We did it one night and she didn't have a problem after that.  She went down well also and just starting waking a ton of times at night.  She cried for about 15 mins and then nodded off - she woke/cried/nodded off for another 15 mins and that was it.

  • Neen- At what age did you do it?  Did Jenna still eat at night at the time? DD still take 3 oz. twice during the night but I have a feeling it is a habit not a necessity.
  • Yes.  Same thing.  I think we had a couple of rough nights in the middle of the night, but now he wakes up once around 4am.  I bring him in bed with me to nurse and he sleeps until 6.  Basically if he wakes up before 4 then we let him self-soothe back to sleep.  After 4 he gets fed.  It has worked very well.

  • I want to wait until 6 months but she is killing me!
  • We started around 5.5 months.  We had traveled for Christmas which was at 5 months and after we got home it was worse and just got worse even though we gave her time to adjust from being away.  It got so bad I thought she must be sick/ear infection so we went to the ped and she said - nope she is fine she just wants you to come get her.  I was against doing it since she wasn't that old yet but that was all mh had to hear and I gave in.  Thankfully it only took one night.

Before Christmas she woke up once to eat so we knew she didn't need to wake up 4+ times since she used to know how to sleep and she used to not have to eat.

We do the same thing as Amy - if she wakes up before 430ish we give her 5-10 mins and she has always gone back to sleep, if she wakes up after that I feed her.  I tried a couple weeks ago to wait at when she woke up that early morning feeding but she was just getting crazier.  Since we changed the clocks she hasn't woken up until after 630! so I think she did the final one on her own - it has only been 2 nights though but I can hope :)

    Good luck!

  • We had to do some "intervention" in the wee hours.  Ben would go to bed just fine, but would wake up several times.  The first night was awful... an hour and a half of crying and checking on him.  We actually did a shorter time- the first night was 2 min, 4, 6.  The next was 3, 5, 7.  Now it's 5, 7, 9 (if needed).  But, I suppose all told was about 4 nights.  He still wakes once to eat (between 4 and 5) and then wakes between 6-6:30.  We did wait until he was 6 months old though and soldiered through when he was younger.  Good luck!
