it kills me that people say it's unnatural when that is the way they are freaking born. and i wiill not even entertain the "embarrassed later in life' arguement.
I don't know the history behind this post, but I'm just wondering the reasoning behind not circumcising. Obviously, I have a girl, but before we found out the gender I wondered how I would make that decision. So, what are the reasons (other than religious beliefs) why people don't circumcise?

it is purely a cosmetic procedure, and done for societal / religious reasons. there are NO health benefits to having it done.

It's an elective procedure for one. Boys don't NEED to be circumcised, so why put them through that? My insurance won't cover it for that reason, and I agree with them.

You don't need a religious reason to NOT circumcise. IMO people whose religion mandates it are the only ones with a reasonable excuse to do it!
Basically, it's totally unethical to give an infant plastic surgery that they can't consent to. It's been done for a long time just because it was the norm in the US, and that's apparently not a good enough reason for many of us to irreparably cut up our boys' penises. Fortunately that means that a higher percentage of parents don't circ their boys, which helps negate the 'it won't be normal' arguments. FWIW, most of the world does not circ their boys.
Did you need a reason to not circumcise your DD? Perhaps give her some early liposuction to spare her the shame of being a fatty later on? No doctor would consider that ethical...
Did someone say uncirc'ed peeps weren't normal? That's laughable.
AbbeyC - go to www.nocirc.org - that will answer some of your questions.
Wheee!
"When it comes to sleeping, whatever your baby does is normal. If one thing has damaged parents enjoyment of their babies, it's rigid expectations about how and when the baby should sleep." ~ James McKenna, Ph.D., Mother Baby Behavioral Sleep Center, University of Notre Dame
it's a little flap of skin. you all did with it what you wanted. move along.
I wouldn't call it a little flap of skin. It's actually much more substantial than that. And still a guaranteed method of livening up the afternoon!

Now that I think about it, I want to also mention this:
First off, we circ'd DS. I didn't want to, but left it up to DH and he wanted to. Whatever.
But then I talked to two of my girlfriends whose husbands are not circumsized. They said that their husbands have problems with yeast infections (they're clean people, not dirty slobs, by the way) and they pass them back and forth to their wives. My girlfriends said that their husbands were told that this is a side effect of not being circumcized. For that reason, my girlfriends told me that they'd likely circumcize their DS if they have one in the future. (One of them has an uncirc'd DS, by the way.)
Personally, I don't care either way. My DH is circ'd--it didn't kill him. He's not a miserable person or a psycho killer or anything. My friends that are not circ'd are fine too.
That said, while I don't see big reasons to do it, there are reasons. Just like there are reasons not to, which I think this post has already covered...

I know a lot of women with recurrent yeast infections; but no one suggests they surgically tinker with their hoo hoo's to prevent them. Sounds to me like those guys need to add some probiotics to their diets, not cut off part of their penis(es).

Re: HA, actually my uncircumcised son IS normal.

Didn't we debate this enough in 3rd tri?
Ok, everyone did what they desired with their son's little scrap of foreskin. Lets move on.

Like I said before, it was and is my biggest regret that I circumcised.
I think circumsion is not normal.
Even though I don't personally know you Mod, I'm glad that you didn't circumcize.
