Aliana Lyna' - what do you think?

Pronounced Ali-awwwna  Lyn-a.....I made the name up consisting of my fathers name, Allie a nickname his siblings have called him since birth and my middle name, ann. In other dialects it's pronounced awwna.  Lyn after my bf the A to make it flow......Be honest.  THanks for your help.    I wouldn't want Aliana to get made fun of later.... :)

Re: Aliana Lyna' - what do you think?

  • I think it sounds like a fine name. One thing I've always wondered though, what is the apostrophe at the end of the middle name for? I know someone else who did this - does it have some kind of significance or change the pronunciation in any way?

  • Poor child will always have to explain how her name is pronounced.

Aliauna will at least get it pronounced correctly...but it still sounds made up.

  • Well.  Yes, it certainly is made up.
  • I'm not a fan of the pronunciation, it seems difficult. Do you really mean awww or is that the only way you could spell a different sound you have in your head? My name is Anna and I've never, ever heard someone call me "awwwna."

  • So it would be pronounced the same as Juliana but Ali at the beginning instead right?  I think that's a beautiful name.  Not too fond of Lyna though, especially not with the random apostrophe.

I think she means the sound Ah-na unless I'm completely off base.  Just like Anna Faris.

I don't like made up names. This is an example.?
  • I think Aliana is fine but I don't like Lyna with it. How about just Lyn?

  • Far too yooneek/kre8tiv for my taste.  Also, it seems like a lot of the same sounds, which makes for a bit of a tongue-twister.
  • Actually, Aliana is 896 on the SSA website for babies born in 2007.

It is also Lindsay Lohan's younger sister's name.  All I did was google it.

Aliana if you pronounce it Ali-anna would be just fine.   But by wanting that awwna sound, you are setting her up for a lifetime of it being pronounced wrong.  Not to mention I honestly think it is prettier pronounced 'anna'.

Aliana Lyn or Aliana Lynn is FAR nicer than Lyna. The random A doesn't make it flow at all. It fact, it makes it not flow.

Or, just name her Lianna or Lianne.  You still are combining yours and your father's names.

I don't agree with pronouncing it Ali-anna, especially because it only has one n.  What about Juliana and Lilliana?  Those can be pronounced ah-na.

  • I like Aliana but don't like Lyna at all.  Aliana is nice by itself but once you pair it up with Lyna it sounds really bad together.  Maybe a simpler mn like Marie or Grace?

  • It took me a long time to realize the name you wrote was not Alaina.  I think she'll get Uh-lay-na more than she'll get Ali-anna.  I doubt she'd get Ah-lee-ah-na very often.

Usually it's to show that the last letter should have an accent over it.  I'm guess OP is planning on spelling the name Lyn?.

  • WHOA! Too much like a tongue twister. Can you make at least one of the names a "real" name? As pp's said, maybe Lynn?

  • I would spell Aliana differently if you are going to pronounce it like that.  What about Alana?

I dont like the combination of the 2 names, they are too similar for me.

Agreed! And I also completely agree with the pp that said that, by adding the a in Lyna, you actually made it not flow.

  • NMS - Sounds like you are trying to make it rhyme with the supermodel Adriana Lima....(at least thats how it sounds in my head)!

  • I think Aliana is a really pretty name. I would probably think of a different mn though.
  • in my opinion aliana is not a bad name- but the pronunciation alli-awwwna is, it should be alli-on-a

i also don't like aliana lyna together- i think aliana lynn would be fine

Not sure on the middle name

  • LOVE it!! My aunt is naming her new baby girl Aliana and I helped her pick:)  Lyna is also pretty.  It's a beautiful name and I also love the meaning you have in it.

  • Btw, of course this name is made up...all names are made up at some point or another.  It gets so irritating to me reading comments about 'made up' names.
  • Thank you so much! I totally agree with you and was just telling my husband that! All names come from somewhere.I appreciate all comments as long as they are intelligent.
  • What's the difference?  You spelled the same thing two different ways.  Thanks for your opinion.
  • We will call her Alli.
  • All names are made up, smart.
  • Exactly the same as Juliana.  But Ali-ana.....thanks, now I have something to compare it to.
  • You are correct!  Except I have no idea who that is! :)
  • aliana is nice, if it rhymes with Juliana... but Lyna? For the love of pete, give that up.. What is wrong with Lyn? If you love the A at the end, how about Luna?  Cause Lyna sounds silly
