Pregnant after 35

We bought the crib!

I know it's early and we don't even know the sex yet, but DH and I saw this Winnie the Pooh oak crib at BRU and the changing table was FREE! It was a special promotion. Since we're on a tight budget right now that was a great deal for us. And the crib is beautiful. Now I can start decorating and painting the room a light yellow since Pooh decor is gender neutral anyway. Fun, fun!

Re: We bought the crib!

  • Awesome! We bought our bumper today, Pooh as well, but haven't bought our crib yet. I'm jealous.

  • I'm putting the bedding set on the registry b/c it's a whopping $169.99! Almost the price of the table! So if no one buys it then I'll look for it on ebay or something.

  • I didn't put the bedding on the registry because I felt like trying to decide on it was going to give me a stroke. But we were at Target, the bedding was there, it was supercute, so we got it.
  • Awwww!!!  My husband and I are planning on a Classic Pooh nursery. Congrats on your purchase.

  • Our bedding is Classic Pooh. Tore me up not to buy the entire collection because it was so freakin' cute.
  • That is so exciitng. My sister is giving me her crib and changing table which her inlaws bought. they were over 1000.00 so i am grateful. It is cherry so it will be gender neutral but I will not have it in my house until the babys due date is closer. GL and have fun with the nursery
  • Fun!

H and I just started looking into cribs/furniture etc, this weekend.... we are also on a tight budget so we need to get an idea of how much $$ we need to save ASAP!

....did you do a lot of research on cribs, etc?  How much do they usually run?

  • Hey - for those of you on a tight budget (who ISN'T.. ) there's always craigslist OR- we bought a crib at IKEA of all places for when we were away from home.. i think it cost me 99 bucks?    i liked it SO much and it was SO sturdy (and converted into a toddler bed) that we actually packed it up and took it home with us.    It's in the play room now set up as a toddler bed/couch kind of thing..    FAR sturdier than I'd expected it to be.   I was very impressed.   It's not schmancy, very simple, but the bedding makes the crib anyway :)   Just an idea!

  • That sounds adorable!  Have fun decorating!

    DD1 is 3, DD2 is 1.
  • oooh, ooooh, is that promotion still going on ?

BTW-I went to the Family and Baby show this weekend at the BCCCand we were primarily just "looking" but also shopping for strollers and could not believe the price!  WOW!  Bugaboo strollers for $800 bucks!  sorry kid, your mom's not that rich! LOL!

  • Hey busybea-  check www.mamabargains.com - they have rotating things for sale at big discounts, but they have a few REALLY great stroller deals that are recurring.    I've seen the Toro Micralite (with the bassinet) for 200 bucks?    and the Easy Walker sky for a bit more - with flat rate shipping of $15.

I needed a double, or I would have SCOOPED up an Easy Walker Sky in a heart beat at the price.    You just have to keep checking back to see what's up for sale..

I read some crib reviews on Baby Bargains. Honesly, the Pooh crib maker Delta only got a C+ because it doesn't have a coil mattress support system, only an MDF board but really, how heavy is a baby? And I didn't need a crib that will last 10 years, only a couple years for baby #1 and another couple years if we have another baby. We take good care of things so I think it will last.

The promo at BRU is still going on. So $299 for the crib and a free changing table ($179 value). The sale lasts until May. The only bad thing is that collection doesn't have a dresser or chest, so if we want more storage I'll have to look hard for a matching dresser.

  • Oh, and cribs run from $100 to $1000 and even more. If you have a tight budget, check out BRU, Target and Walmart. Target has a nice cherry nursery set, crib was around $250 I think.

  • It feels so good to start getting organized. I obsessed over DD's bedding (Curious George) and was so relieved when we finally found it on ebay... of course she still hasn't used the blanket, and we didn't use bumpers so I spent a lot for a nice fitted sheet and curtains but she'll use the comforter when she moves to a toddler bed.
  • Excellent!  thank you ChristineNYC & NewMrs07... I'll check out both specials pronto!

Thanks again for the info ... really much appreciated!
