I kinda did some shopping this weekend.. Im so not sure of what size to buy. Newborn looks so little and 0-3 looks huge. Most of the stuff was carters. I think I heard Carters ran small.
When I buy clothes I buy 3-6 or 6-9 because I figured at the baby shower i'd get tons of the small clothes. I did buy a few Newborn and 0-3 but only in things I want her to wear when it's warm out and her coming home outfit.
I am buying more 0-3 than NB. I go by the poundage on the tag also. There is one brand where NB is only 8 or so pounds, so I would get 0-3 in that brand.
I'm not sure I can answer which size you should buy, but what I can say from my experience as a labor and delivery nurse is the clothes always look so small until you try to dress your newborn! We have so many little babies that leave in clothes that are rolled/baggy. However, they grow so quickly that I wouldn't recommend getting too many newborn outfits. Hope this helps!
i have only bought 1 onesie so far and it was a 0-3 month old one (only gonna get a few onesies in NB to last for the few weeks~ fig it's gonna be hot too, so baby won't need a ton to cover up~ i will swaddle baby most likely to cover them from AC)...
i haven't purchased much yet because i am waiting to find out the sex b4 going wild haha (lord knows i will)... but when i do, i plan on purchasing a mixture of clothes that will include any size up to 12 months...
I'm buying 0-3 and sale stuff that's 3-6 and 6-9. I figured if I felt like he didn't have enough after my showers then I would buy newborn. It's hard to judge b/c you don't know what size baby will be and 0-3 fits 8lbs.
I've personally bought one NB outfit, and my mother got me a few. I usually buy 3-6 month or larger, because I figure at some point he'll be able to wear them, even if not in the traditional time frame (they're all stuff I can cold-weather up if need be). I'd hate to spend a lot of money on clothes he might be able to wear for only a week, or not at all. Besides, as a PP mentioned, almost all shower gifts of clothes are NB sizes, because most people don't really think about anything besides the cute factor.?

I haven't bought anything yet but we will definitely buy as little as possible in newborn sizes for the reasons pp's mentioned. It's so hard to know what sizes to go with. For instance, my cousin had a baby last year and he was born at 11 lbs. He was a monster baby. So I'm sure he flew right out of the 0-3 month clothes if he ever fit into them. I guess just keep all receipts and buy close to the date. That's what I'll try to do.
I told my doc that I had bought 2 NB outfits and she said that 2 is plenty, that a lot of NB don't fit into that size at all or outgrow them almost immediately. She recommended 0-3. A friend who's on her 3rd said 3-6 months are the most useful b/c you can use them for the most amount of time.
I have been buying mostly bigger sizes. I have some stuff for 0-3 months. Babies grow so fast that I'd rather have him grow into stuff than out of it too quickly.
I did not buy any newborn stuff. I did get a 1-2 month velor jogging suit (probably will be for coming home) and some 2-4 months stuff. For the most part I am getting 0-3 and 3-6. I love how the German stores have more size ranges.
