2nd Trimester

Annoyed with first tri SIL

I just found out this weekend that my SIL is pg. First let me say that I am thrilled that our kids will be so close in age and I am very happy for them.

I kind of wanted to punch her this weekend though. She is such an AW that she kept telling everyone how she can't believe she's showing already (she isn't). I don't think she took her hands off of her "bump" (aka bloat) all weekend, and she kept putting her hand on her back and arching it like she was 9 months along. Did I mention that she's 10 weeks? Oh boy...

  • Haha. Just wait. Imagine what it will be like when she hits 2nd tri, or *shudder* 3rd tri. What is she going to do when her *bump* deflates? Sounds like she was just trying to take attention away from you using whatever she could. GL getting thru the next 30 wks with her!

Yeah, it's going to be a long 7 months...

  • I wonder if people said this about me?? Lol.. but when I was 10 weeks, people close to me noticed the little pouch.

  • she sounds like a friend of my SIL.  at 9 or 10 weeks she announced that she had hit that "really uncomfortable part of pregnancy where she isn't sleeping well."  hahaha my SIL just laughed at her.  she also complained about needing to pee all the time because the baby was pressing down on her bladder - you mean that grape sized baby? - how about its the hormones!!

  • My back actually REALLy hurt at the end of first tri, hasn't hurt since... but Yay for that!  But never did I act like that!  If it does hurt her, tell her to take some tylenol and get a body pillow to sleep with! Big Smile

  • wow. is it her first baby?
  • I have a co-worker who is always AW herself like this as well.  She is due 8 weeks after me but she keeps telling me that I don't look as pregnant as her, asking me if I am sure my due date is right and telling me that her baby will probably be born before mine.  It gets old really fast.

LMFAO.  I find that the smirk and "you're so naive" giggle works well in these stuations.  Just tell her that if her back hurts her now, you already feel sorry for her with what's in store!

I have a feeling your SIL will be one of those people who feels the baby move at 11 or 12 weeks.  Wink

Yep, it's their first. But even I knew that I was just bloated at 10 weeks. When she told me how she couldn't believe she was showing already, I flat out told her that she was probably just bloated (gotta love those hormones, they let me say whatever I want!). I think then she realized she was being annoying because she later said something about it again, then looked at me and quickly said "but it's probably just bloat." Haha!

She also was saying how it was SO uncomfortable for her to sleep. I told DH that I can't wait to see her again in a few weeks when her bloat disappears and see what she has to say then.

sounds like a giant douche. tell her maybe shes gaining too much to be bigger than you. hahaha. thatll shut her up

  • ugh, this would irritate me too.  Maybe she's just in that initial stage of excitement and the hand on back, hand on belly, "oh i'm so pregnant" thing will wear off.  I can't imagine acting that way right now, but maybe i'm just lucky with no symptoms!
  • Lol, let her rub her lovely bloat!

Ditto this! Just say "Maybe you shouldn't eat so much." or something like that! Haha.

  • Ohh I knew someone EXACTLY like this. It was totally annoying and I wanted to punch her in the face too.
  • That would be extremely irritating.

  • My mom is like this.   I lost 7 lbs in the first tri... so she lost 20.  I started showing at 4 1/2 months... well, she didn't show until 5 months.  Everything is a competition with her and it makes my DH furious.  He just wants to tell her that everything isn't about her!
  • It does make me feel better that my other SIL secretly giggles at her with me.
  • My SIL was the exact same way. Except she got pregnant on accident when DH and I first started trying, so it was annoying in a whole different way. When she started wearing maternity clothes at about 8 weeks because she was "showing so much", I wanted to smack her and tell her that her "baby bump" was really just all the damn cheese fries she'd been scarfing since getting her BFP.

  • HAHAHAHAHA.  That would annoy me too.  And she thinks she has back pain now???  Um...I'm sure our backs hurt WAAAAAY more than hers and we're only about halfway along!
  • eek. that is very annoying.

    That's awesome.

Still, this is her first pregnancy so let her be an AW.  I'm sure I made a big deal out of everything up to now too.  It's annoying but it will make you much happier if you just learn to ignore her.

I know I'm late, but my mom is like this too! She's like "Now I hope you're not wearing maternity pants yet- I didn't wear them til I was 7 months!" and "You shouldn't gain even one pound during the 1st trimester- I didn't." Yeah, and you're also 3 sizes smaller than me and always have been! Blegh!

  • That's going to be one hell of a long 9 months...
  • Awwww, so ok, it IS super annoying, BUT it sounds like she's just super excited (and maybe a little self-absorbed) and simply doesn't know a, um, better way to show it.

If you can possibly bring yourself to do it, try to overlook her silly ignorance, and be enthustiastic for her: offer to loan her your pregnancy books!!! That will show her you really are excited, and perhaps keep her from saying/doing such silly things once she becomes more informed.

  • I am flabbergasted by the idea of not sleeping well in the first tri.  Every night is like an overdose of Ambien for me.  It's awesome.
