NBR: How much would you pay for a party cake?

I make cakes as a hobby, but two people have asked me to make cakes and I need to give them a price. They are custom cakes, not like something you could pick up at the grocery store. One will be for about 30 people and one for about 75. What would you quote?

  • Sheet cakes or tiers? Sheet, probably $40/$50ish for a 1/2 or $80ish for a full.

If it's a tiered cake, charge by the slice. Much more moolah that way.

  • One is a cake that will look like an open book. The other is a 2 tier cake. Did you see Joey's cake on my FB page? It will look like that one, but in girl colors and roses instead of the elephant.

Awesome job!!!! I'd pay $150/$200ish easy for a cake like that. Which job has the bigger amount of people being served?

  • The one like Joey's. I saw that cake on a website and loved it! I knew we were only having about 20 people to his birthday, but I still made a cake that served 75. :)

  • Then $200ish for that cake. If the book is going to be more of a sheet base, 30ppl, you can probably get away with a 1/4 sheet. I'd say $50/$60ish.
